I'm John.
Born in Colchester UK in 52 and lived there till I was 20 in 1973.
Emigrated to Australia in November 73 and had my 21st birthday somewhere in the Pacific ocean between Tahiti and New Zealand.
Lived in Sydney up to 2014 before making a move to the southern highlands in NSW just over 18 months ago.
I've been playing for about 40 years now, but it's only since moving to Bowral that I'm playing with some great musicians on a regular basis. Best move my wife and I have ever made.
Here's a pic of a fundraiser gig we did back in May 14 for the local community of Robertson with Coupe & the Roosters + Hen backing John Waters.

Jim. First of all, welcome to the forum. If you're "not sure" about forum etiquette, maybe it'd be a good idea to get acquainted with it before you post much more, since ALL of us "keyboard warriors" here (current post object included) play, by and large, by the rules. I have personally no idea if you are really as mean and tough as you make out, or if you're maybe just a 15-year-old girl with anal retention issues, but TBH, I really don't give a flying fuck either. If you want to come on here acting the big man, and calling out anyone who DARES to disagree with you, I feel you will find plenty of others here who will be more than willing to ignore every word you say... assuming you continue to be allowed to participate.

For goodness' sake, please just calm down, enjoy the forum for what it is and what you yourself can learn from it, and stop throwing your toys out of the pram.

Kind regards.

Fin.

Jimmy,
I too, would love to welcome you as well.

Be you a Kiwi or an Ozzy, your first post has a bombastic similarity in tone to a short-lived poster from days of yore with the nom de web of "Chopper".

I'd like to offer the friendly suggestion that you review his offerings and the resultant response collective via the archives.

This place can slide into a rough and tumble tone from time to time. But, our benevolent host (and Nacoran Nate, our Solomonesque Sargent-At-Arms) try to gently nudge things back to the genteel and respectful to maintain decorum. However (and this is my sincere advice to you), make no mistake, once extended liberties have been exhausted, there is a Velvet Hammer that gets hauled out when warranted.

This place is a fantastic resource, and surprising in the amount of leeway. Try not to test the limits, too much.

... and while I'm in this thread, and see that I never got round to introducing myself...

Born 1962 in Paisley, Scotland; supplemented my income busking with guitar for a while in the late 80s + early 90s. Moved to Germany end of '92 after touring Europe all summer annoying the Europeans with said guitar.

Started learning the harp sometime in October 2015, and have been driving The Wife and Kids crazy ever since. Fortunately, they are all musical too and, as such, hold a certain amount of sympathy with my addiction.

@ John M G - like the pic, mate. Looks like a bit of a blast. Nothing better than playing live with good, like-minded people.

Ok cheers for the tune up??I was just chasing some music info for underpinning knowledge without exchanging brown paper bags this website came up on google. Anyhow thought I'd do the right thing after registering and say gday and see if I could get a bite or two to check activity it worked I'm after very specific technical info. Don't worry I'm used to dealing with sooky music types I'll keep to myself and let the introductions thread resume its purpose. Music is a lifelong journey I wouldn't be here if I knew everything so I'm grateful to some contributors on this forum it's helped me out already. Ps give my regards to your mother I didn't have time I was only there 5 minutes

@ Jim - I'd have imagined that, after thinking it over for nearly three days, you could've hit us with a more original comeback than that, but maybe you were busy with your English lessons in the meantime - who knows... or cares?

However, if your idea of "doing the right thing" is coming on here with an attitude, and straight away dissing members of this forum who actually CONTRIBUTE, instead of just TAKING (yup, no shortage of that type of A'hole in this life), I'm sure you won't be too sorely missed if you do decide it's possible for you to keep your trap shut... or even better, refrain from using up oxygen which could be put to better use elsewhere.

Kind regards,
Fin (private contact details available via PM if you have the time ahd the bottle to come to sunny Germany - feel free to look me up).

This broken spiteful reaction really says something it's a shame for you to degenerate an introduction thread with such an obvious lack of a sense of humour.

Local musicians in my hood are extremely generous with their time and music and harmonica players who express from heart are the best, it allows listeners to take their mind off life's challenges and brightens their day for a bit and reminds them of some deeper thoughtful meaning. Live music is revered where I'm from but now I know what's in yours I'm far from impressed. Maybe get some sunshine on your back and take a break from the bright light for dumb ideas.
Ok get back in your St Vincint De-Paul clothing bin I hope rich people feed you cheese cake through the hole and you get fat and can't get out so others are not discouraged about saying hello and being brutally honest about fact of matter

I'm Jenn, and I live in Arkansas. I've been playing for a couple of months. My taking up harmonica is a direct result of wandering into Deak Harp's shop in Clarksdale one weekend. He wasn't even open, but he let me come in anyway, and he told me all about harmonicas and harmonica music, and I was fascinated. I bought one (a D) and took it home and started researching how to play, and was hooked. That man is a harmonica evangelist, and I am a convert!

Based on the descriptions on the "what level are you" page, I'd classify myself as an intermediate player. I mostly fit that description but have some of the characteristics listed under advanced beginner and some under advanced intermediate, but the latter is likely because I have previous music experience (saxophone, bass, and piano), so rhythm, phrasing, and dynamics are not new to me.

I can't get enough of the harmonica and I'm excited to learn more and get some feedback from more experienced players!

Welcome Jenn. Enjoy both the beginners forum and the main forum. You can search almost any question that's been asked. I am grateful for all the advice as well as connections made through the forum. I live in Maine and am driving with my wife and dog from Maine to Colorado in December. We plan on taking a more southerly route as I want to see Nashville ( my wife is a country fan) and Memphis (I'm a blues fan). I don't think we'll hit Arkansas but if you have any suggestions, let me know. I think my contact info can be found by clicking on my site name.

Hello to you all ,
My parents had the pleasure of my birth in the heart of midlothian (In the shadow of castle rock Edinburgh ) in Scotland , the wee town of Kinross was home until my family emigrated to Melbourne Australia .Left home early and drifted around awhile then settled in Noosa , a lot of surfing done . There met and loved a french girl ( still do ) Followed my french girl to Paris and lived there for ten years working all around Europe, not a lot of surfing done .
We moved back to Sydney and where happy for ten years there ,worked in many countries during this time ( and after ). Ten years ago I and my french love moved back to Queensland and we bought a small property in the Mary valley , in Kandanga creek .
Started playing harmonica six years ago as an antidote to cigarettes , and fell in love again , this time with music and.... seems now I have found yet another home here on this site !
Life is good eh ? Good wishes to you all .

Hey Hey Green Guy here from New Jersey,
Was inspired one day when I was listening to a little pandora and Jason Ricci came on out of no where. Didn't even come close to fitting in with what I was listening to.
Started out trying guitar epic failure even with lessons. So giving the harp a try at least i can get something that sounds a little musical to come out of it.
I've decided to dedicate more time to it this year.. so let's see where it goes!

To Be honest I've found that with Mr Gussows downloaded lessons and all the good stuff in the Web I find harmonica much easier to pick up then my live intractable guitar lessons. Maybe a coronation thing.
Anyways working hard on Floyd's Hotel and Stompin lessons I've downloaded.

Well if you've found those then your in good shape.

Adam Also has great Youtube videos to accompany the tradebit lessons. The youtube videos with help with alot of the nuances.

Also check out Ronnie Shellist's site Harmonica123.com He has alot of good download lessons. They are not songs like Adams. Ronnies are licks and grooves, things like that. But they really fit together nicely with adam's videos.

It seems your well on your way.

I am a very serious man from the moon, dark side, called Finland. No need to be more specific because if you are watching it from the USA it is only a very small point. In my life I only have one wish, when the time comes, I'd like to die like my father who was a pilot: peacefully asleep. Not crying and screaming of fear and terror like his passengers.

Born in Chicago. Left at an early age, grew up in Wisconsin.

Now I live in Oakland, CA.

Used to play the harp (not that well) years ago. Thought about taking it up again, but when I picked up my old harp (cheap knock-off of Hohner Blues Harp), it fell apart. Got a Special 20 yesterday, still working on the two hole draw.

Greetings from New Orleans, La. Im interested in learning all styles of music for the harp. I grew up playing percussion. Learned guitar in my teens, still currently play. Picked up the harmonica about 7-8 yrs ago. Got frustrated and quit. Picked the old marine bands out of the drawer and decided to give it a go again.

I recently posted my own intro thread before finding this one, but I'll jot down some things here that weren't in my own thread.

I am in my late 20's and have been living all over the U.S for the past 4 years. I am 4 years into a 6 year enlistment for the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. I originally hail from the Midwest. Cheers!
