Ok guys, old threads are great to search, but bringing up from a year ago is just a pain in the ass.

If you think you need to bring it up again - start a new thread and quote or link to the old one.

This is going to get very tedious sorting through extensive old posts. Especially when people are continuing a conversation from a year ago like it ended yesterday.

It was funny when this sort of thing popped up and people thought Jon Sparrow was back, but it is staring to jam the forum up like cholesterol.

Let the old stuff lie and keep it fresh...

Please!

Lol. Yeah, there are two schools of thoughts on that. Some people don't like repeat threads. Some people get excited thinking Jon Sparrow is back! Sometimes people even start arguing with people who haven't been active in months or years. I don't mind either way. I think linking to an old thread is a good compromise. Maybe we should do like Failblog and have a Friday Rewind though, where we bring back one oldie but goodie.

I personally like reading the old threads. I admit it can be a bit confusing when you see an old name like Jon Sparrow (where are you man?) but it's sometimes good to read what your opinion was 2 years ago and compare it to what you think now.
With new members coming on board all the time, the same question is bound to get asked many times
(What's the best harp? Manji vs Crossover? What should I practice?) so reading the old threads to me is not much different to reading these same threads over and over.
And sometimes when things get a bit heated round here it can be good to read a funny older thread from a year or so back....it gives a snapshot of a time when things weren't quite so heated and serious.

One option would be to lock a thread after the problem is solved or the questions have been answered marking it resolved. If one felt the necessity to revive the thread all it would take is a click from a moderator. But then again problem solving ends up in a perpetual debate so where would the resolve be.

As a new member I like it. I would love for someone to direct me to some of the cantankerous "old threads". (which I would promise not to bump) Especially the one that relates to a certain formerly prominent member apparently being banned from the forum. RIP

I actually asked Adam to add to the forum archive page the invitation to revive any thread.

I like to read the old threads myself. but yes, sometimes it's quite confusing.

I reread old books in my library. Why not old threads?

"The Apology Thread"

That's what the stir was about.
There was a little bit of "Heat" in the beginning.

That one deserves to die, slowly and painfully.

I agree with OP. If you want to quote something from an old thread or give a brief review, fine....I think a new thread is the best idea.

Anyone can read/reread old threads anytime without the rest of us having to.

According to a recent exchange I had with our long-lost friend Jon Sparrow (in the comments to Brandon's harpboxing video on YouTube), he has been "here, on his computer. lol" the whole time! I asked him if he would come back over here, but he didn't reply....

But yes, it's quite disconcerting to find that I've been reading opinions from several years ago, especially when I know that person has changed his/her mind since then...

Who is Jon Sparrow?

The reincarnation of old threads doesn't bother me too much

i'm amazed that people can find fault, no matter how insignificant, no matter how tenuous the grievance, at almost anything under the sun.

Jon Sparrow is a cool guy. he left without any bullshit/fanfare. he went out for cigarettes and we never saw him again.

I went out for a pack of cigarettes, and realized that I quit smoking 5 years ago. Go figure.. :)

I think Jon is still lurking around. He commented on my laid back shuffle video a while ago. It was nice to hear from him again.
