Hi all! I just noticed nacoran has had his 6666th post! With that auspicious event, it got me thinking how many of us have amassed a large quantity of posts, say, more than 2000 posts. A quick survey of the threads on the first two pages of the board gives me the following list of members in the 2000+ Club:
The 2000+ (posts) Club nacoran 6666+ kudzurunner 4000+ tookatooka 3000+ MP 2700+ Kingly 2500+ isaacullah (Me) 2300+ groyster 2200+ barbequebob 2200+ Frank 2100+ eharp 2000+ HobostubsAshlock 2000+ GregHeuman 2000+ JoeL HarpNinja toddlgreene Mrverylongusername JonSparrow (no longer on forum, but much loved) waltertore (no longer on forum, but much loved) Buddha (RIP)
Considering also date of membership (most listed above are 4+ers), Frank is the youngblood on the block, and he's moving fast! :)
I'm sure there's more of us up here in the lofty high-post realm, so feel free to pop in on this thread and I'll add you to the list (the door man won't let you in otherwise!) Also, several of you are getting REAL close, so start posting!!! :)
There are also several old-time members who may not have spent as much time typing as us 2000+'ers have, but who nonetheless should get some kudos for sticking around this long! Add your name here, and we'll make a special "extended" list for MBH'ers that've been around for more than 4 years!

Hahaha.....great thread.....seeing my post count a few months back had the opposite effect on me. It basically told me I was posting too much (under the theory that anytime spent posting is time that could be spent playing/practicing/listening). I actively started posting less, I therefore have no hopes of (and no desire to) catching the leaders.
Great thread anyway.

Frank is in the running for most posts per time on the forum. The only other person I can think of in the running is the near legendary Jon Sparrow.

@mr_so&so: Yet another auspicious post-count! This thread is destined for glory! :)
@all: This thread is mainly a bit of fun, but my alterior motive was bring out folks like harpnwillys who've been around forever, but maybe who don't post much. I've been curious about how many of us old-timers still frequent the board. I know that some folks (like me) have reduced their general frequency of posting, but not their frequency of visitation. There was a time where I'd be posting a lot every day, but now that I've "grown up and got a real job", I find I don't have enough time to do it with the same frequency. Plus, having been around so long, I'm less interested in certain topics that I've seen come up over and over again, so I sort of skip over a lot... So, I just weigh in when the topic is of especial interest to me these days! :)
Any more old-timers or high-posters lurking out there? I'd love to see you pop in on this thread and say "hi"! :) ----------

Just checked my first post which was on May 05, 2009 in the "where are you from? MBH forum members sign in....' pages". So nearly 4 years.
Despite being a lurker I still read the forum every day and do some work behind the scenes as a moderator (nacoran does the vast majority). I was interested (and embarrassed in my lack of posts) in reading that on the same thread Nacoran's 2nd post appears on the same page 3 days after me.

@Blocker: It's really interesting to see the variety in posts versus time on the board. My first post is from Dec. 14th, 2008, and I've got 2392 posts (including this one), doing the math tells me I've made an average of 1.51 posts per day since the day I've joined! That's a lot. Doing the same math for nacoran tells me he has posted an average of 4.63 posts/day. On the other hand, you (Blocker), have posted only 0.097 posts/day!
I wonder how much time that all relates to? Let's say it takes me about 5 minutes on average to write a post (I'm just guessing here). That would make (2392*5)/60=199.3 hours, or 8.3 days of me typing posts! That's a lot! Doing the same for nacoran tells me he's spent at least 555.8 hours, or 23.15 days posting here, and that's not including his moderator duties! Wow!
Buz, I guess we ARE making a cry for help! Lol! ----------

I'm a fast typer. Back in college I was good for about 4 pages an hour writing papers.
I wonder what GH left at. If he's close to the 2000 mark maybe we could bring him out of retirement to chase the dream!
I'd like to give a shout out to the other the other Admins/Mods we've had at one time or another. DutchBones, GH, Buz, the Todds (how awesome a band name would that be?), Blocker, and of course Kudzu himself for running this crazy farm. (Did I miss anyone?) Tooka for running the Blow Your Brains Out, Bluemoose for his Webbrain, Isaac for organizing a FB page so it was easier to get in touch with people off list, the guys who tried (even though Wikipedia killed it) to get a Blues Harp Wiki Portal up. (A blues harp wiki is still on the list of things I'd really like to accomplish), and all the people I've become friends with on FB too, and all the people who've added comments that helped everyone else get better, laugh, think or even just gave this place a sense of community. :)

In all sincerity, I hope to eventually meet as many of you as I can in person. As with all other things in life, it is tough to coordinate. Even people like Bone who are right in the neighborhood of where my office is I have yet to meet.
It's nice to have the banter and repartee with good people online. But it's a real pleasure to meet face to face.

As best I can tell, GH's last post was #1980. Last I heard he was still doing music, just not as much harmonica.
I really wish I had an easy analytic tool to break down some of these numbers. Just something that would sort out the top couple hundred posters and their total, the longest memberships, let people type in quickly and see who else started around the same time as them, who posted in the most threads that they also posted in, there is a program that does something like that for Facebook. Wolfram Alpha. You have to give it a lot of permissions, but it creates all sorts of graphs. my favorite is one that shows how my friends know or don't know each other. It looks like (well, I guess it is) a network map. I see clusters of local friends, school friends, gaming community friends, harpers, local musicians, family, all just laid out.

@Nate: Stephen Wolfram wrote the book called "A New Kind of Science", and is one of the foremost scholars in Complexity Science. He was a child prodigy, and wrote some of the first cellular automata models. He also started a software company to market his statistical package "mathmatica", which was pretty powerful for it's time. I think he's into self-replicating knowledge and genetic algorithms these days, so it's no surprise his company is doing this kind of thing. I just installed it as an app on my FB page, and find it to be very interesting. It adds real "social network analysis" to your "social network"! ;) ----------

The earliest posts I can find:
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/332700.htm
Feb 14, 2008 (Listed by GH as the first thread)
but,

Feb 14, 2008 10:16 Am
Featuring Superchucker77, 1 post :)
But let's see if we can hack the url:
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/ Seems to be standard on all forum threads, 332605 seems to be the first thread I can find. The next one is 332700. My quick two test threads are 5349545 and 5349546, so they seem to number sequentially. That math is kind of scary... it can't be going up purely numerically- maybe across multiple mac builder sites? Test 3- 5349548, test 4-5349549. Making posts doesn't seem to add to it, so I'm guessing it's total posts across different forums, but part of the hash is us, so the only two ways I can think to search for earlier posts would be to keep typing "feb 13, 2008"@modernbluesharmonica.com in Google, then "feb 12... etc. or to keep searching with the whole URL string and lowering the last number one at a time. I'm not sure I'd structure it that way. Anyone could get a lot of site analytics from both the site, and across Macsite's entire collection of sites pretty easily. You don't want the competition knowing how big you are.

I wonder if it's on Wayback? Like I said though, it seems to skip numbers- it did when I posted a couple quick test threads. I'm betting those are on other Macbuilder sites, so, especially in the early days the forum when there weren't as many members the numbers might have been pretty far apart. The 'topic deleted' might just be showing up for any request that seems valid but doesn't give a result. The other way to track it down would be to look from the back forward, but since threads are in order by last post instead of first post, you can't just look at the very end of the list. I found a little trick-
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/blues_harp_forum.html?page=2
That's the URL for page 2 of the thread list. After trying for a couple minutes to hit the 'next button' or jumping page to page, I discovered you could just change the number and jump to the page. Right now we have about 710 pages of lists of threads.
http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/blues_harp_forum.html?page=710 would take you to near the end then. From there you could scan the start date of posts.
Edit: That's working, I've got some early ones.

So, to summarize, the oldest three posts that seem to remain in the archives are:
1. (oldest) http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/332605.htm Feb 14 10:16 am
2. http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/332700.htm Feb 14 5:14 pm
3. http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/332717.htm Feb 14 6:18 pm
And the oldest post from the proprietor of pucker, the Doc, the master of tongue block- http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/332700.htm Thread: Feb 16, 2008 10:28 AM Post: Feb 25, 2008
The earliest surviving thread was started by dewey.deloe. Thread 3 was by a guy who sometimes stops by, master harp boxer and looper Superchucker77.
I know a while back when they imposed the character cap they deleted everything over 5k characters. If I was launching a site, I might take a moment to pontificate. Perhaps that was it's fate?
Just looking at those threads we have some 5 yearers. Brandon is the only one who I know who seems to be at the full five years that I recognize, although a few others I recognize popped into those 4 threads later, including some who may well have 5 years based on the number of posts they had at pretty early on (but not quite 5 years back.)
