Did a search on shirt and found nothing so ..
What about a Tee shirt with the Modern Blues Harmonica with Adam Gussow logo (the A440, C key number I am looking at now), or a baseball cap. If not a baseball cap, them a big old patch we could sew anywhere? Bet they would sell. Would by great for Adam Gussow sycophants (probably improper usage in the pure sense) / Admirers ( that's better )to wear to Adam's events or while appearing on America's Most Wanted for disturbing the peace in a place like Pompano, FLorida (why is 90% of it in Florida?) for playing on a streetcorner at 3 AM. As cool as old ladies who wear red hats?
Just asking.

We could do it from cafepress.com. They have a deal where you can get them to put a logo on anything. i think they make every thing to order so you don;t have to buy a bunch of stock, and then be left with only xxl t-shirts that won;t sell. I'm sure they take a reasonable cut of the sale price, but there would be some left for adam at the end of the day. i'd buy one fo' shizzle. ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

I'm not sure this is a good idea. A friend of mine bought me a t-shirt which showed a picture of a blues harp-player and the phrase "Blowing away the Blues" underneath. I wore it to the local jam and one of the guys there said I looked like a special needs harp player. I saw what he meant afterwords. In the UK we call things like this naff, I don't know if there is a similar word in the US. I love this site and all you guys but I don't know if I'd wear a t-shirt with this on it.

I see what Oisin means about looking like a "special needs harp player" lol. I would also probably not wear a t-shirt... but a mug, or an ashtray... why not. I always liked adams old logo.
What do you guys (Oisin) think about these t-shirts...? T-shirts. I always thought they were pretty cool... Especially the "Whats the key?" one is hilarious.

I would wear the "I,IV,V" one. The others are quite funny but I don't think I'd wear them. That's only my own personal taste. If my wife was reading this she would tell you I don't have any taste anyway and anything I wore which was tidy would be a big improvement...even a special needs t-shirt.So maybe I'm the wrong person to ask about this.......

One Word: STICKERS!!! I'd plaster some "Satan and Adam" stickers all over all the local music joints's bathrooms! And I'd stick a "MBH" sticker on my harp case fo' sho'!
I'd still rock the T-shirt 'cause I don't give a f*ck about what anyone else thinks about me! They can call me whatever they want.

As much as I love the thought of Adam getting paid by licensed merchandise sales, there is no surer way to lose your "cool musician" mojo than showing up at a blues jam, open mike or gig wearing a dorky cap or t-shirt that has a harmonica saying on it (well unless it's showing up wearing one of those "harp bandoleros" with about 40 harps strapped around your chest).
About the only way you could partially recover from that would be if you were absolutely lights out when you went on stage. I mean BLEW PEOPLE AWAY!!!! I KNOW I ain't that good. And even if you are, why ruin it with a dorky look?
I mean, I know Adam refers to us as harp "nerds" but why advertise it?
Stickers for the wall of some joint? Sure, why not?

I do not think I would wear one on stage. never said that and agree. The logo for the site is a pretty good one.
I like smoking food. SOmeone gave me a shirt from meat market. The logo is "Cloverfield Meat Market. You can't beat our meat." I wear it all the time in my yard sitting by the smoker.

See, the Cloverfield Meat Market shirt would be AWESOME! to wear to a gig.
Conversely, it would also be cool for Otto the butcher (who doesn't play harp) to wear an MBH t-shirt to work.
Am I making any sense? Probably not.

See I think this is a cultural thing. In the UK "naff" gear is recognised by most people except the odd chav. I agree entirely with Honkin on this. I would definetely wear the meat market t-shirt, I had one saying "Clancy Movers, New York City" which I wore all the time...sounded like a laxative company. (actually my Uncle's moving company). Irony has a lot to do with this and a bit of self depreciation. How about "Suck my harp till your lips bleed" I would wear that.

I think it is all good. I have often said to the wife - NEVER buy me a tee shirt that makes a statement. My sister bought me a hat with a patch on it that reads "Harmonica Man". First of all it is a nice hat. Second, I feel like a total dork when i wear it, but i do not want her to feel bad. Third, I am a beginner and would not want anyone to say "ok, harmonica man, play something..". That said, there are a few tee shirts I wear casually. There are logos that are clunky and ones that are cool. If I was playing on a stage, I would likely wear my dirty smelly faded Boston Bruins cap, a Yuengling Lager tee shirt and jeans. I do not watch hockey and do not drink Yuengling much, but the hat is bitchin and I been wearing it for 12 years, and the tee shirt design is decent. Or my meat market shirt with the pork fat, sauce, and dry rub stains on the front. Actually I could eat that shirt.
On the other hand, I like Issac's statement. I am who I am and I wear what I wear and if you do not like it, piss off. Think I am a nerd? I got a few hundred friends who will tell you different.
It was just a thought and I think inspired some interesting perspectives. None wrong.

I freely admit that I'm a nerd, and I like ot wear "nerd shirts" all the time. That's part of why I am so cool! ;) I look at the t-shirt as showing that we belong to a specific "harmonica club" rather than that we "play harmonica". I'm an archaeologist, and I wear various archaeology t-shirts. They are almost all things like "Uiversity of Toronto Archaeology", or "Wadi Fidan Field School, 1999". I don't have any shirts that say stupid slogans like "Archaeologists do it dirtier and deeper!" because that's not my style (i'm not crass :) ). A t-shirt with the MBH logo and the new slogan "Remember the past but live in the present" (or whatever it is) would be very cool because it connotes membership in a specific group rather than simple enthusiasm for an activity. If you wear it to a jam and they make fun of you, then maybe you ought to think about the character of the people who go to that particualr jam. If it's just friendly "ribbing" you can tell them to piss off, and eventually it'll be cool. But if they are really deriding you, then F them, ya know? Plus, even if you don't wear it (it's not your specific style, etc.), if Adam can earn a buck on it, you can at least look at it as a donation.

Obviously if there WERE a shirt, web site is key. I was into archeology and paleontology as a kid - circa 1956. I recently had a Far Side tee shirt with cave men carring a huge carrot on their shoulders , captioned "Early vegetarians returning from the kill..".
With respect to being a dork - I am 61. I do not care. Did the Joe Cool, Disco Danny, gold cuff link, custom suit and shirt thing for a long time. NOW - I pass gas in public just to hear people say "oh, the poor old man..". When I use a public rest room, I toss water on the front of my pants before I leave just to see the reaction.
And I am going to see Adam in Philly in June, but I will behave.
Some of the above statements were for amusement.

Fellas,
You gotta think big here. T-shirts are for tourists. As shown on so many YT videos, Adam has carried on the storied tradition of true harmonic sartorial splendor--incredibly loud, tacky and ill-fitting Hawaiian shirts. Picture it: a line of Signature Gussow Hawaiian shirts, with the MBH logo on the right breast where the alligator usually goes. Well?

Sorry, but I'm from the old school and would not be seen anywhere wearing any item of clothing with a big logo on it! Real kitch IMHO. Maybe Ok to wash the car with but never to wear! But then again it's probably fashionable to look like a dork in a promotional T.
Years back T shirts in particular were given free if they contained a logo or an advertising message. Today kids pay multiples of what a perfectly good T shirt is really worth just because it has advertising crap on it. Crazy world!

Can we somehow go tacky AND nerdy? That would seem to cover all bases! I still think something like cafepress.com would be the best. You just give 'em your design, and they can put it on almost anything you want. To order. I'm talking stickers, patches, mugs, t-shits, polos, sweatshirts, thongs, hats, bowling shirts, baseball jersey's, whatever. I'm not sure about Hawaiian shirts, but that's probably an option too. They make them to order, so anyone can get whatever product they prefer. Here's the link to the cafepress page that tells how it works. You can see that the "basic" option is free for the "seller" (in this case adam), and all profits after their cut would be sent to him. The basic package is more than sufficient for our needs here. All we need is to upload the logo or design we want, and then we are in business. People can buy any product they want. Does that meet everyone's standards?
EDIT: they don't have hawaiian shirts, but the DO have jackets! We could all get jackets and then walk around snapping our fingers... They even have a box you could put your harps in. That'd be pretty cool with the MBH logo on it. ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"

You know Isaac tidy and nerdy might just work!
Those boxes look pretty cool actually but I'd like to ruff it up a little on the outside, bluesy looking, and have it pristine inside where you keep your harps and it would look good with the logo on the lid.
You think Adam can provide a copy of the logo ?
What about submitting our own designs?

I like this idea and would buy a couple Tshirts. I don't wear caps, but I noticed some saying they did. So we make caps ,Tshirts and hawaiian shirts. This is a good idea! Before we go any further we need to see if this is something Adam would want to do. I mean he a teacher, harper, does YouTube and I believe he's married with a child. He's probably busy so if we could figure out a way of doing this with out to much of a burden on him time wise and putting money up front! Once we agree to a logo and a provider we should start to tally how many we are really talking here!

My god, you guys have been going crazy! I turn my back and look what happens.
Somebody from this discussion has emailed me and we going to talk through the Hawaiian shirt idea.
What would Little Walter do?
I agree that there are limits to the cool-efficacy (if I may invent a phrase) of sayings on t-shirts when they advertise one's heartfelt affiliations. I like working somewhat obliquely to the main point. I rarely wear blues-themed t-shirts, for example, and I don't often wear running t-shirts, but I love a plain white t I've got that has "Mississippi Track Club" as a logo. Got it for a half-marathon.
There are two ways of working a t-shirt or Hawaiian shirt that I like in this case. I'm NOT actually a fan of the blatantly sexual double entendres--smoked meat, beat meat, sucking and blowing, etc.--. I'm not a prude; I just don't think that ends up achieving its end.
I like something that either states something directly--i.e., a modestly-sized "Modern Blues Harmonica" logo--or suggests some slightly obscure subcultural affiliation, such as the I IV V logo. That latter logo says "I'm a musician" to other musicians, and means nothing to somebody who isn't a musician. It's all about blues, but it doesn't say "I simply LOVE the blues!" In a sense, it combines the nerd-position with the cool-position. That's a neat trick.
We'll figure it out.
Edited to read: How about a saying that involves "twelve bars."
"Twelve Bars Is All You've Got."
or just:
"Twelve Bars."
or:
"Twelve Bars, Use 'Em Wisely."
or:
"Twelve Bars. Repeat."

I am dreaming up a new logo here. I keep picturing a circle, with MBH in it. The outside edges of the M and H are contoured so that they "round out" with the circle. Across the center at an angle is ten seperate holes. They are not connected, and it is not meant to look like a comb, so a guitar player won't get it, but a harp player will look at it and say "oh yeah, that's a comb made out of negative space." I've got some preliminary designs here at my desk, but you may have to give me the weekend to get a good conceptual design and a way to post it.
This logo could be fairly large, but on the high chest/shoulder area off to one side. Then the back would read "12 Bars. Use 'em wisely."
What do ya think? It doesn't scream "Hey look at me! I'm a harmonica player!" yet is subtley gets it done.

Well I have enjoyed this thread and pay tribute to those of you that recognise your a Nerd.
Where I come from we use words like Naf, then it escalates into more approprate adjectives where folk are left in little doubt. You may not of heard of the jazz, junk, and blues man Cannonball Adderley but to quote him he once said
"Hipness is not only a state of mind its a fact of life" (When you read that think how you aspire to play.)
OK heres an idea. Your user name becomes your coat of Arms.
All of us meet up once every couple of years say at a certain lightning tree, crossroads, wearing sweatshirts with our user names on. (mrverylonguserhame)probably have this down his arms.
Then because where all rivals a great battle takes place where we all kick the s... out of each other. Once everything is settled we all withdraw to our castles dust down our armour and then arrange to do it all again a couple of years later. Musically of course.

Since I started this amd may be responsible for you getting into the clothing business...
good suggestions. I only mentioned the meat thing cause it is a tee shirt that would not be considered nerdy. Love that shirt but i agree I would not put my name on that. My cousin had a septic company - will not say his logo but it was rather unique.
I like the Twelve bars is all you got -Use them wisely idea. Anyway, I think we had a little fun with this while waiting for you to jump on to bring sanity to the thread.

What do people think of the cafepress idea? It would be really easy, take very little time to set up, and would cost absolutely $0 to get it going. Here's a link to their products page. They have a range of apparel, housewares, buttons, etc. that one could get the logo on. Again, they make each item to order, so there's no need to buy a bunch of stock. The buyer just picks whatever item he/she wants,a nd they slap a logo on it and ship it out. We as the "seller" set the price a little higher than the cafepress "base price", and all profits at the end of the month get sent as a check to Adam's PO box. We could set the profit-per-item to whatever percentage Adam thinks is fair. I'd be willing to set the whole thing up if someone else is willing to get the logo graphics ready.
Concerning the logo: I really like Preston's logo idea. It's like a schematized version of the current site logo, simplified for a more pleasing and slightly cryptic t-shirt design. Here are cafepress's suggestion for logo graphic formatting. I'll look into how we can get a logo on one side and a slogan on the other side.
Can we do two slogans? One serious (twelve bars, use 'em wisely) and one kind of tongue-in-cheek funny like "Don't be a tool. Tune your harps." or something? Obviously, not a crass double-entendre (not my style), but something kind of nerdy-funny? ---------- -------------- The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"
