I had never heard of this person until Adam wrote a post on his work with rap and harmonica. It is unfortunate that his career is already over; he has been found dead in Montreal this morning.

WTF? Seriously, I'm quitting harmonica, all the innovative harmonica players are dead in their 30's.

Sonny Boy II lived to be a very old man. Sonny Terry was pretty old, too.

To quote the story:

Montreal's hip-hop community is mourning the loss of the rap artist known as Bad News Brown.

Paul Frappier, 33, was found dead on a street corner early Saturday in the southeast end of the city. Police said there were "clear signs of violence" on his upper body, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Born in Haiti, Frappier moved to Montreal at a young age, where he lived with his adoptive family until he left home as a teenager, making a living as a street busker.

Frappier quickly gained a reputation as a skilled rapper and harmonica player and later shared the stage with some of the hip-hop world's top performers, including Ice-T, Cypress Hill and De La Soul.

His manager, Henry Gelot, described Frappier as a generous man who loved music and "left a mark on everyone who knew him."

"He's definitely going to be deeply missed," Gelot said. "He was a good friend, he was my artist and my business partner."

Investigators on the scene Saturday haven't suggested a motive in the killing.

Frappier's death marks the seventh homicide in Montreal so far in 2011, compared with three at this date last year.

Very sad. He was the only musical connection I had with my middle son, who likes rap/pop stuff.

Bad news indeed!
@Groyster SBW 2 was in his sixties when he died. The original Sonny Boy was murdered in chicago at a younger age.

re:rice miller
there were different birthdates of rice so dont really know how old he was but that 1899 birth was possibly not valid the 1908 date possibly was more correct robby robertson said he had tb and was spitting blood into a bucket while he was jamming with the band while in helena-levon helms hometown

The list is eerie of harp players who die prematurely. There HAS to be something to that. An epidemiology study should be done.

Little Walter
Gary Primich
Paul Delay
Chris Michalek
Sonny Boy 1
Bad News Brown
Paul Butterfield
and im sure theres more...

This is really really sad news to hear. It's been a real bad time for harmonica lately. We seem to be loosing some of the present-day giants of the instrument at an alarming rate.

Once I heard "Born2Sin", I knew that BNB was the real deal. It's too bad we won't hear all the songs he was going to write.
