It has been a crazy year @ MBH. Epic battles, Blowing Heads Off, First ever Hill Country Harmonica gathering. A plethora of new fiends joining and the loss of others. I thought It would be fun to take a trip back across 2010 and nominate members for the honor of MotY. I wasn't thinking anything too official since trying to agree on one thing at MBH is like throwing ONE banana to TWO drunk monkeys. So lets just make nominations at this point and see where it goes from there. So here is how it works:

Nominate a member(s) who was influential or had a major impact at MBH, (good, bad or indifferent) be sure to tell why. You may even create a category such as, Most prolifac poster, most informative, most entertaining etc. Please be nice, as I am starting this thread in the spirit of community and to promote participation.

I'll go first

My nomination For Member of the Year goes to Buddha for obvious reasons

I would also like to nominate Nacaron as the most patient member. I don't know how many times he, with a cool head, moderated arguments in a thoughtful, fair and humaine manner. Thanks Nate for all your hard work.

TNFrank and NOD as the most entertaining. If nothing else these two guys were passionate. maybe to a fault. As disruptive as they were their threads were like a burning school bus full of Amish children driving off a cliff...you couldn't help but watch in horror and any attempt to help took you with them. They added the action adventure to 2010

and Jonsparrow for the most AWOL. From most posts to least in one year. Where did he go? Did he: Get a Job? A girlfriend? a new didjeridoo? who knows?

and Tookatooka for the best Blow Your Brains Out challenge facilitator. Thanks Tooka your efforts go a long way to get people participating and make the forum more fun.

come on lets hear your nominations.

I nominate Buzadero for his brilliant one liners.

Greg Heumann for always being ready with an answer to a technical problem.

All the regular posters, yes you know who you are.

And the mods for keeping things running smoothly.

I gotta categorize:

Most refreshing and stunningly talented newcomer:Heart2Harp-wow, this guy's got 'it'.

The coolest head in the room in a crisis:Nacoran

The pro bono award for organizing the BYBO madness-Tooka

The organizer of the most talked-about harmonica event that will surely become a tradition-Kudzurunner, with his Hill Country Harmonica, which has the potential to become the Woodstock of the harmonica world. I won't miss it this year, either.

Most incredible video-Boris_Plotnikov and his jam with Howard Levy-just plain awesome.

Most enigmatic and missed:Buddha

I second Tooka's nomination of Buzadero for his one-liners and delivery. Made me belly-laugh more than once.

Best stories:BBQ Bob and former member Walter Tore

Most helpful with technical info:GregH, BBqBob, 5F6H, RHarley

Trailblazer award:For his discovery and proliferation of the coolest new little not-made-for-harp amp:HarpNinja, and his ongoing trials with the VHT Special 6.

Germanharpist, for his contributions as a mod and an important part of the community. I've not met him, but I don't doubt that he is one of them jolly Germans.

Heart2harp, for smashing onto the scene.

And I nominate myself for sex appeal, I'm fairly certain I attract a few females here. Let's just say if there was a private message feature, my inbox would be fool -- bazing

Jim, for sharing the knowledge of harmonica modification.

Tooka; I find many of his posts humourus

I gotta go with GreyOwlFarts for sticking solidly to a serious regime of producing earnest efforts.

TookaSquared for the monumental showcase effort on BlowYourAssOff (or, whatever it was called).

ToddElVerde for a strong, out-of-the-gate show of sincerity in embracing the Moderator role. Don't stifle the free-range environment too much, its what kept me here in the first place.

And, that Fat Bastard the Late (Great) Chris Michalek. I remain teary-eyed over the loss of that guy. He managed to torment me from the grave. I received a very clever joke Christmas gift from him that arrived at my San Francisco office late on the 23rd. I had already left to make the long drive from SF to my house at noon that day. When I got in on Monday morning, I was late for a planning meeting for a Project I'll have coming up soon on a dam up in the mountains. As the meeting was breaking up, the Operations Manager for the company offhandedly mentioned that I had a package at the front desk. I went and retrieved it, then opened it up. I'll be damned if The Buddha hadn't fully holiday wrapped yet another installment of a very funny response to an ongoing inside joke. To describe it would be meaningless. But, it was spot-on and ruthlessly funny.

Fuck, I'm having a hard time getting through this post.

However, I digress.

Following these nominations, will someone be determining actual defined Categories?

We could, but does it matter? I think it is the thought that counts. Nominate somebody and they feel good! problem solved.

I'm open to other ideas however.

Smokey Greenwell, possibly? He runs a stand in the French Market, and also has steady gigs at Cafe Negril on Frenchman in the Marigny and Balcony on Decatur. I can put you in touch with him if you like. To my knowledge, no harp-only buskers at the moment. Grampa Elliot plays a little, and there are a couple rack and geetar players. I think Jason R. and Dave Renson have busked in the Square, but I haven't seen them.

Back in the mid-80's, he showed up quite a bit during informal group street jams. From what I can recall in focus, those were some good times back then.

Ooops forgot to nominate. Diificult one this cos I like a lot of posters but if you held a harp to my head, Id have to say Nacoran, not only is he a moderately, moderate, moderator but he always try to be supportive of new posters and often comments on their threads.

@Buzadero first post........ "GreyOwlFarts"

I must say in a British understated sort of way, I did find that quite amusing. How did you know by the way? or did you just stumble across the secret of my overblows.

Commendations for the unsung heroes who dicuss harmonica in a quiet, unassuming and courteous way, and, without whom, no forum.

Medals and a 21 gun salute for kudzurunner and the moderators, who give us this forum and who have struggled tirelessly to lift us out of the grips of ego, posturing, thuggish idiocy, cliques and crass rudeness.

Darwin awards (for selflessly removing themselves from the gene pool) for some truly tenacious acts of self-destruction.

Snakes-in-the-grass marks of shame to lurkers who emerge only to find fault with a turn of phrase, a choice of word, to bite, to poison and then slither off.

Gold star to barbequebob, for wisdom, good manners and a willingness to share his treasure trove of harmonica know-how with us all, freely giving in spirit and in act.

Hmmmm...based on CaptainBliss's trademark 'xxx' at the bottom of his posts, and that I'm pretty sure the 'X' denotes hugs, I will say he is the ultimate pacificist-willing to 'hug it out' before there's anything to 'hug out'

I gotta give him my vote. Now, let's all hug it out. Please put the cigar down, Buz. Mind the Gap, Tooka. Nac, is that a harmonica in your pocket, or...oh, never mind.

@eharp, @toddlgreene, @Stickman:

Perhaps "xxx" celebrates a glorious tic-tac-toe victory?

Or...

Perhaps it looks pretty?

Or...

Just kisses?

EDIT:

@toddlgreene:

/I will say he is the ultimate pacificist-willing to 'hug it out' before there's anything to 'hug out'/

Yes! For most situations, hugs + conciliation > walking away > fighting.
