I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to Adam and the rest of the forum members for some of my comments last night as regards Chris's thread about Astrology. I've been a memebr of this forum since the very beginning and although I've had some heated debates and disagreements with people over the last few years, I've never resorted to insults before so I am truly sorry for letting my personal standards slip on this.

Adam,
I know Chris can be provocative with some of his posts and I don't agree always with his style of delivery but I do think on balance that he brings more to the forum than takes away from it and it was the last thing on my mind to see him banned. I, and probably a lot of others, would be grateful if you could reconsider your decision on this and let him back on here. It's a sad day when anyone is banned from the forum but I am truly sad that Chris has been banned and if I could go back 24 hours I would retract what I had posted if I knew it would not have led to your decision. When I read again what I had posted in the middle of Chris's thread I can see how it provocated him into posting what he did so perhaps there are some mitagating circumstances for letting him back.

Finally I would like to apologise to Chris for playing a part in what has happened.

It is very sad that Chris is no longer here. I agree that he contributed a lot to this forum.

Oisin- I reread the Astrology post and unless you deleted something, I don't understand Adam's warning. I've certainly read a lot worse from others.

As for Chris, yes he contributes a lot to this forum. It won't be the same without him. A lot more boring, for sure! :>)

I posted similar thoughts in the karma thread, but I can't believe no one received a warning for comments made there. It hasn't even been locked!

I am frustrated and saddened by the increasing level of hypocrisy and use of double standards on this forum.

I applaud Oisin for his actions in this thread.

I lost my temper yesterday. I'm sorry about that. I read a complaint in the Karma thread about equal application of the 'no religion' rule. I looked at the thread in question. I told Chris I thought it was a violation of the forum creed. He basically didn't care. I've had the same run in with him in the past. I've tried being nice. I've tried changing the subject. I've tried being brutally honest. I've tried being mean. I've tried vapid flattery.

I know Chris brings a lot to the forum, but I know people have left specifically because of him too. What's frustrating is the problems are never about harmonica issues.

Ninja, I'm not sure I see what hypocrisy you are talking about. I don't mean that in an argumentative way. I try to be fair and even in the comments I make. I know Adam does too.

Neither the philosophy of Karma or the practice of astrology are religions. The astrology thread was flagged as off-topic and was clearly enjoyed by many people (including the OP on the Karma thread who joined in and was rewarded with a reading). It was clearly intended to lighten the mood in the same way as footballing ladybirds.

I really hope they bring Chris back. This place isn't gonna be nearly as interesting without him.

Guys...please let the spirit of my apology stay on this thread. I really am upset that I have in part been responsible for having someone banned from the forum and the last thing I want to do is stir up any more bad feeling.
Last night Chris started a thread that I didn't agree with but it was obvious that many more others were enjoying it. I gave my opinion on Chris's thread and I should have known better than to do it in the way I did knowing how Chris would react. I should have just kept my mouth shut. That was why Adam issued me a warning and quite rightly so.
If I hadn't said what I did then Chris would have not answered me in the way he did and the thread would not have gotten out of hand and Chris would still be posting here today.

Nate, I totally understand what you are saying and I'm a big fan of your steadying hand on the forum but it wasn't all Chris's fault this time.

Edit..thanks for that Hob. I think it would be good if this thread could now be locked and let Adam mull over the post and see what he thinks.

"the increasing level of hypocrisy and use of double standards on this forum" Oh...now that actually makes sense and puts things in perspective. For a minute there, I was confused about what was going on. Thanks for clarifying the operative dynamics.

He is a big boy. Just because someone drops a line in the lake, doesn't mean a fish is going to bite. He knew the risk he took when he responded. Don't feel badly.

Sorry to see this happening here too. It has been extremely valuable for me to be able to read the various discussions that Chris has contributed here.

The sad thing is that actually the forum creed makes this forum very religious one. People are judging the texts against the creed and saying whether something is religious or not. That's just stupid, there's no excuses for that.

I understand this is a harmonica forum and that will be the main topic here, but this is also blues harmonica forum which means that "The Devil's music" is in the focus too, in contrast with gospel, soul etc.

Adam and Satan is a title for band that is clearly meant to be religiously provocative. You have the Adam who ate the apple and now jams with Satan there.

And why is it ok for Adam to say that "Cultivate the egolessness of a true Buddha" if others can use religious terms? And I ask this from the point of view that I've been zen-buddhist practitioner for a decade (recently left that behind, however).

It's such a hypocrisy and power games, really. This is my honest opinion. It's ok to ban people from the forums if they behave evil or become trolls, but the forum creed here is religi.. I mean ridiculous.

ps.

I apologize I used words religion, Buddha, soul, gospel, Satan, devil and blues here. I'm sure it hurt many people's religious feelings. I'm just glad I didn't use words Jesus, Santa Claus and Christmas here as that would have hurt even more people with atheistic or pagan belief systems.
