Here's a band I've been into for a little while now. 'The Heavy'. They are an English band. The more I listen to them, the better and better and better I like them. This is the future of blues oriented alt/art music in my opinion. They are coming through Phoenix in two weeks. You know that I will be in the front row. (miraculously, a good band is coming here for once!)

This is the song that you have probably heard. You know that you are good when Dave Letterman asks you to play the song again, on the air.

Here's a couple of other's so you can get a taste of their style:

Anyway, I wanted just to pass on my new favorite band to y'all! I hope you dig it!

Nice, I never heard of them before. But I like the sound I'm going to see if I can get some of their musics.

Very cool stuff. I've never heard of them before, either. More funk and reggae flavored than "blues oriented" but great stuff.

Great stuff!

I love this R&B revival that's been happening. It's the return of big bands with horn sections (and woodwinds too)!

@Ryan: YES! I'm glad I could turn you on to them, that was my purpose in posting this. Get the album, you will NOT be sorry!

@hvyj: Yes, the new album is has more funk/reggae sounds. Their first album is pure R&B and Blues though. They hit all my favorite types of music! I'm quite excited to see them live!

@Shanester: Yes, isn't it awesome! I love horns!

I really enjoyed the last video. Grows on you. The rest I can do without.

On a side note, I have a painted version of the mic in the second video (mine has a cord :)). Looks good in the steel finish.

The Album (The defamation of Strickland B) is excellent and each song tells a continuous story.

Nice one Isaac. I must admit to not having heard of them before but then I don't listen to a great deal of music anyway.

I think the thing that sets them apart is they appeal to the older generations and their act is not aimed at the kiddy market.

@tolga: glad to be of service! :)

@nacoran: The bass is definitely killer in this band.

@Ozark: That last song is the only one I posted from their first album. The music on that album is all similar to that song, and the music on the new album is more ska/reggae/funk.

@Oisin: That guy was great! Man there's a lot of really cool music comin from your side of the sea these days! You all gots to keep us yanks up to date on the new up and comers!

@tooka: Agreed. They meet Adam's saying "one foot in the past, but eyes firmly looking towards the future" (paraphrased). They are definitely bringing an old skool sound and making it "now".

Not bad. First one I had heard. The second one I REALLY liked and the third one started to glitch and I left it at that.
Good stuff, man.
I agree with Tooka about it not being aimed at zit faced kids and I think thats why I liked it so much.
LOVE the horns.

The refrain from the first song "how do you like me now" has been used as the music in a commercial that for a while seemed to be played incessantly. As is typical, the advertisement was so obtuse I can't even tell you what the product was that they were pitching (someone actually got paid for that ad campaign?).

Anyway I remember thinking at the time, I'd really like to hear the rest of that song, if it exists (I was thinking the refrain might have been written specifically for the commercial).

Thanks to issac, now I have. I've got to check these cats out. In all my years of watching Letterman, I've NEVER seen him ask a band to play more, the way he did, and he's had the heaviest hitters in the music world on his show.

I dig it. My drummer introduced me to another cross-the-ponder by the name of James Hunter. We now play 4 of his tunes in our band. The horns are fun to play on harp! We transpose most of his stuff to C, so I'm able to get some cool use of my low F.
