As I remember, several people advised you to get better harps. It looks like you should have listened. You gave away one crappy set and now you aren't so fond of these. I bet you could have gotten one or two special 20's with the money you wasted. ----------

Lee Oskars are fairly big... Or maybe you are one of those people who can handle a 12 hole harp! Or a chromatic! I've really got to stop enabling you.

@TNFrank --- One of the first things you'd need to learn when you begin playing an upgrade harp, be it better than the cheap Chinese made junk and get into harps like MB's, Manji's, etc., is learning to get your breath force under control, and 98% of newbies when I was teaching had exactly NONE at all and all played too hard. On better harmoncias, the brass is usally going to be softer and the reed slot tolerances (the distance between the edges of the reed and the walls of the slot the reed vibrates in) are going to be tighter, even more so on an expensive customized instrument, and even tho the distances are measured by differences of 1/10,000th of an inch, it makes a HUGE difference in how the reed plays because those two factors alone makes the reed play louder with less effort, but if you don't get your breath force under control once you've been playing better harps, the risk for blowing them out will dramatically increase.
Harp companies use stiffer, harder brass with wider slot tolerances for a good reason, and that's because they're aimed at absolute beginners, and they kknow for a fact that they're gonna be BRUTALLY hard on harmonicas (tho often they have no idea because most of them are teaching themselves and have no one around to properly show them the ropes and get into their face quick when they see bad playing habits developing). ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

So I notice your tagline now includes an Old Standby in A. How is it different from the Hot Metals you got rid of? Hot Metals cost $5.88 and Old Standbys are $6.31 at Amazon. That's 43 cents in real money. Have you found a deal that makes Old Standbys cheaper or is it better quality you are after? Does this mean you are replacing the Folkmasters as your beater harp? You've got a sizeable number of Big Rivers, but they seem to occupy an uncomfortable middle position between the high end SP20/Harpmaster and the beaters. You save more than 10 bucks every time you buy a beater instead of a Big River. Wouldn't you be better off putting that money toward a high end harp? What is the difference between the two high end harps? The SP20 costs more but do you think it really worth the extra $3.25?
Just helping you back in the old groove, Frank. I miss it.

I think Frank is much too obsessed with gear, and I wonder if he spent any money on learning materials.
