I stumbled across the following: HARP EXPLOSION: THEE ONE MAN BAND. It won't be to everybody's taste, but it's certainly modern. Amplified harp, loops, and rhythm. From Croatia:
I like the first one - I think the guy is quite musical. I couldn't listen to a lot of that, but I think it is creative and well played.
But the second one sound almost like the 1st. You just can't do a whole set of stuff like that without boring the crap out of people. Adam your stuff is more varied...... ---------- /Greg
I feel it gets a little 'cluttered', soloing over the same key harp, the backing is still using "jump up & grab you" notes like the 4 draw.
Layering harps can be tricky, like playing 2 harps (or even guitars for that matter) on stage together...that's one area where I thought that you really had it sussed Adam, when you did your TV spot with Brandon before HCH. Brandon's cleaner, "mid scooped" tone sat really nicely under your raspier, up front sound on the shuffle...doesn't work quite so well the other way around, because the middier tone always seems to "sit" on top, unless much quieter.
It's like when you play under a band or a guitar solo, keeping down to the 1, 2 & 3 holes helps stop you treading on anyone else's toes, unlike wailing on 4 draw or 2/5 octaves, which will always stand out & better for fills.
Playing less 'stand out' notes on the backing, or playing in the lower octave, can help.
My old English is rusty, but I think he is using the wrong THEE. He just wants the alternate pronunciation of the. I think in modern internet speak that would be implied by using all caps. THE One Man Band.
Yeah, I found that guy a while back. I'm liking it too... I'd DEFINITELY like to see the Doc cover this stuff on his foot drums! That would be awesome! ---------- ------------------ View my videos on YouTube!"
i missed the other thread concerning 1 man bands. sorry if this was discussed already.
are we still considering it a 1 man band if he is looping tracks? if so, what if somebody uses other instruments for the looping? and if you go that far, are they still considered 1 man band if they do all the looping at home and take the "bt" out to play?
I'd consider it a one man band as long the person (man or woman) is playing all the instruments, even if they are looping them. I'd draw the line if they had someone else's loops though, although even that is tricky. All a keyboard really is is a collection of notes and effects that play like a loop one key at a time, and it could be complicated if you had a DJ spinning records and rapping over the top. You could argue that they are transforming the recorded sound into something else.
MP- I looked this guy up. As of right now, I'm building a rig like his! I love this dude. Here's another video of him performing in the street...

i found his stuff next to the looper dude vids. as boris says,"it's not my cup of coffee", but he's not relying on electronics. that is what makes his efforts impressive.
watch out waltertore. ---------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus
