wow i thought you were dead.lol havent heard from you in awhile i was just thinking the other day i do that sometimes,And was wondering wheres that green banner?
Yeah! This ole forum needs shaking up a bit. Been a bit quiet these last few weeks. Come on guys, lets play some harp and git on down. Where is everyone? Where's HarmonicaMick? The spark has gone here.
Let's all start discussing HPC4 and maybe we can get something going on.
Hmmm, one theme that would allow people room to move might be to do a blues in a specific key & put up some backing tracks at different rhythms (shuffle, fast, slow) in that key while also allowing those that have their own to bring their own backing track to the table.
This might end up with results like everyone doing a blues in E (for example) but some of them are slow blues, some are fast, some are shuffle, some are jump, some in first position, some in 3rd, some in 2nd. They can all end up very different but be everyone's take on a blues in E.
I'll keep thinking of other ideas...

After to the big failure of my scat attempts of HPC1 I'd like some closure on that. ;) I also like Ryan's idea of different backing tracks. ---------- germanharpist on YT. =;-) - Resonance is KEY!
You don't want to hear me sing GH. I'm happy to go along with whatever is decided though. We ought to get lots more input this time. At least we can get the ball rolling now.
That's where you're wrong I want to hear EVERYBODY sing. HAHAHAHA.
Yeah, originals, covers, whatever. In my case the problem is not what to sing but how. We could maybe have geordiebluesman write us lyrics and everybody's got to sing it his way. LOL That'd be great! ---------- germanharpist on YT. =;-) - Resonance is KEY!
These ideas aren't fleshed out, but I'll toss them out there anyway...
Collaborations? Original songs only? A call and answer where one person plays something and we send the file to the next person to add a response? A really simple musical phrase that everyone has to develop into their own piece of music?
man that would be a lot of work setting that all up who colaberates with who,or do you have one call and responce sent to everybody and then sending it back and forth ive done about a dozen online colabs on acid planet this last year and working with just 2 other people can get hard to tranfer files and other things

I personally like to keep it simple but im easy(but dont tell everyone that) im happy to go with whatever a free for all or a theme. having some bounderies might make judging a bit less taxing. im keeping my posts short cos im having to use my mobile phone and i keeps logging me out grrr...
I vote for what Nasty said in the first place--a no-holds barred blues harp smack-down! Sing, yodel, loop, use FX out the ass--get down to what we're most comfortable with.
Rules: 1) must contain harp
2) check rule number 1
3) No bands--just a solo effort.
Might be good if it was music--but nothing hard and fast about that.
I think it would be fun to just see what everybody is really up to with this tin sandwich thingie.
I would also like for it to be a contest--with first, second and third place winners. Some kind of prize would even be good--what if I donated a customized (by me) MB harp? If somebody else would volunteer to pay the shipping--I'd send it to the winner. If I win, we save the shipping. If the winner is like in Malaysia or something--the shipping could be some bad news (I'm in the Pacific NW USA).
you know oldwailer prizes are always good maybe we could set up a paypal account for harpfriends and have a small entry fee small cause im out of work lol and then the prize money could buy a nice harp for the winner.just a idea, but then again the rules would probelly have to be set in stone ect it might be to much of a hassel

I am with Nasty and OW on this, i did not bother with the previous comps coz i thought the format was to limiting and would make for far too much boring repetition. I want to see a comp that allows real creativity, with song writting, playing and singing using backing tracks or even an acustic geetar player. It dont matter if its crap it just has to be fun and your best effort!
Im game i play guitar, harp, bass, stomp box and djmbe drum, while recording on a boss 8track and effects thrown on a jamtrack i got from my stash mixed with acid program and cakewalk,Now if i could only learn how to use them efficently:)And thats nothing compared to some of you guys that have all that and more,Balls out war, what the hell with the guys with a little pc mic and no EQ,:) Whats funny is someone like Jason Ricci would kick our buts just using a pc mic,but my point is would recording equipment and extra instruments, make it unfair to some.(but i still like the idea)we could also have best music video with harp

I think we need some sort of structure to follow. Havging just and open competition with no real rules could be tough to judge.
Also keep in mind that there are alot of us advanced beginner/intermediates who want to kick in. If you say it has to be an 'original song', well, I'll sit back and watch.
I think Adam is on the right track with picking a groove or something in that area.
---------- "Take out your false teeth, momma, I want to suck on your gums."-P. Wolf
I say let's pick a style and go with that. How about a slow blues? Other than that restriction, I say let anything else go, e.g. singing, backing tracks, amplification, loops, whatever.
I suggest everyone using the same backing track, 12 bar blues. Then they are free to do what what they want. Amped, effects, acoustic, sing, standards, original, etc.
I would like to see how many ways people can interpret the same grove.
yeah, I like the "look what I can do!' with the limited restrictions. talent lies in different places... keep it varied for the sake of the masses.. ---------- Kyzer's Travels
What about playing any type of style you'd like for 60 seconds, but only being able to use holes 1, 2 and 3? Those limitations mean you'd need to get really creative and the preparation for the challenge would help to focus on controlling those bends.
---------- "You will never get every possible thing out of an instrument, but the instrument will get every possible thing out of you" - Ray Charles.
Hell yeah. Let's let it ALL hang out this time. Why the f not? :)
Phogi makes a good point. If we do this, then we see what everyone is up too in their own style. It'll make the voting WAY more difficult, but the voting is subjective anyway, so whatever... :) ---------- ------------------ The magnificent YouTube channel of the internet user known as "isaacullah"
what if you just pick a legend.. and your entry could be anything from that legend.. it leaves alot of songs to choose from, and room for style..

How about we all do a song from one artists only. We all love Sonny Boy II so lets all do one from his list or someone else we all like. Then we can see just how far and close we are compared to the old guys.
For sake of Modern in Blues Harmonica: I will be paying special attention to brandon at hill country. I have tried a looping pedal with good results, and can imagine how i would progress should i own one myself...
It's definitely modern blues, no doubt about it. I like the idea of calling it HPC4 "Harp Players Creativity". If a backing track suits you, use it, but mention the makers in the credits. If you have a rhythm guitar man, and youre soloing over his chords, have him say hello. And if youre like me, and are interested in the idea of a looping pedal, go with that.
As long as it stays in a blues context, everyone should be in agreement with that, and as i mentioned before, would lend to a wider selection of entries. More importantly, it allows for a showcase of what each of us are intended to do as artists, and how we choose to put our talents on display.
Edit: and judging could be broader as well i.e. categorize each type/style. (more people win everyones happy)

I vote for doing your own thing because it lets us show what we are allready working on. To me that means what you like to work on. Solo work yes(no band). Just you and what you can and want to produce. Put your heart into it. The most votes gets a hearty pat on the back.

I'd like to play my own stuff, and be able to record multiple tracks. I don't play any other instruments well enough so the only way you'll get to hear much harmony is if I play with myself.
