So I know that Cumberland Cases is no longer in business. That's a shame. The reviews I've read here and elsewhere as well as the pictures I've seen of the work look great. The final hinge was crushed on my old hohner briefcase last week while playing with Andy Frasco and the UN (if you've seen them, you know they are rowdy as hell). Anyway...I'd love to get a custom leather or twill or "old timey" (for lack of a better term) case. Looking for a 12 slot as I wind up having to use a lot of different keys with the different projects I play with both acoustic and electric. Ideas or suggestions welcome.

Well, it's not terribly old-timey, but I've had my eye on this leather "pencil case" as a possibility for a compact way to store harps. I've got a good solution right now, so I haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet. The dimensions seem right, but I haven't seen one in real life yet...

I'd hit up Chris Jackson at Slim's Custom Cases. IMO, he's the best in the biz right now.

pt gazzell praising a case maker who was thinking of expanding from making single cases to multiples. and then someone else chiming in about making cases??

then there is the hohner case which has gotten good reviews on this forum.

I saw one online vendor somewhere who still had a few black tolex Fender cases available. Can't remember where though...

If you want an old, vintage case with "character," check out shopgoodwill.com (I think). I bought an old trumpet. The horn was trash, but the case made a great harp case, holding four pedals, four mics and about 30 harps. I used the trays from an old Hohner case for the harps, two trays with a layer of Crossovers in their cases on the top. If you want a bigger case, try a sax case.

Hey Philmore- I've seen good things about Michelle Lefree making new leather cases for harp. I think she's the one PT Gazell was mentioning not too long ago. Here are some pics at this link

I always thought it would be funny to convert an odd instrument case to a harp case. Show up at a show with a French horn case!

Bluexlab had a neat case that was also an amp. Basically, they took a small amp, and put it in a larger cab and put a drawer on top for your harps. It was sweet.

@nacoran

I've seen a couple oddball things like that. Mainly custom jobs. Be nice if Bluesluggage could work something like that out on their Sonny Boy.

Yes, it was my work that received the kind reviews from PT Gazell and Dane Terry. (Thanks, Swesey8 for citing those links.) I made PT a single diatonic case with a belt loop that was lined with pigskin suede and a case for Dane's chromatic that was made from English Bridle leather and lined with smooth pigskin. You can see pictures of my leather harmonica cases here: SilverWing Leather harmonica accessories

I also make a leather tool roll that was designed in cooperation with Richard Sleigh. He's using his at the Harmonica Collective that starts today. Pic's on the above link to my Smugmug site.

In addition I have been developing multiple diatonic cases that will hold 14 harps. One will be two 7-harp cases that can be combined and the other will be a single case. Right now I have single 7-harp cases that I can offer in black or brown leather with blue, black, or brown suede lining. I'll post pictures on that same site tomorrow morning.

For those who might be interest in something completely different, I am always happy to work together to design a custom harmonica case, holster, belt, bandolier, or the like built to your specifications.

I can be reached via email at mlefree@silverwinggraphics.com.

Thanks,
Michelle LeFree

I used to collect pocket knives, there are many knife rolls, cases, individual cases with snap closing flaps that most Harmonicas will fit in. In fact I made a harp belt to use before I ordered a custom one from Cumberland... Too bad Cumberland is out of business, they made great stuff. Check out google images and see if theres anything that might fit your purpose in the knife collecting world,.

Thanks for all the tips. I'd love to convert an old case of some sort, into a small case. Think I might hit up Slim for some ideas as well. Those look really nice. Michelle, I'd love to hear more and see some pics regarding your multi-harp cases.

You guys are always a wealth of info. I don't post much, but I admit that I've blatantly ripped off several ideas and purchased several items (amps, positions, song choices, etc...) because of this site. Just the idea to purchase the two gigging amps I use the most (and I play 2-4 nights a week) were suggestions from here. Thanks to your help, I play through a VHTS6 and a Princeton Reverb RI. Love em both. So I always come here for help.

You are correct that there was a recent thread on this. I do love seeing what everyone is storing their harps in though. Never too many threads on the subject, in my opinion.

customharpcases.com

I got a tweed covered case... which i absolutely love from there.

Great customer service... and great quality. The foam insert was customized to whatever gear i wanted.

just my 2 cents/endorsement

Great leather harp cases can be purchased from Buckeye Leather which sells through Harp Depot.I have 2 of their 4 harp cases which are very classy plus lots of the single leather pouches. I know that Harp Depot has come under some criticism re their service but I have found they were very good. Buckeye manufacture a range of harp cases in very sturdy leather. I get lots of compliments on the cases & over the years (some I have had for 5 years) they improve in looks.
