Years ago, I played Vintage 1923's, but they got so inconsistent I happily switched to Hohner. But I miss the intonation of the Herings. I know they lost their US distributor, and availability is spotty, but does anyone know if the quality control has changed?

bluxman, you're confusing them with Bends. Hering hasn't been selling much of anything outside of Brazil lately, and it's too bad. Their chromatics always played well out of the box.

I note that Hering has a web site at;

The events an the events page are all from 2008 though.
Both Guitar Center and Musicians Friend list one model of Hering, Black Blues, in their online catalogs.
It is hard to tell from that how strong Hering is.

I bet Madcat Ruth might be a good guy to talk to about this. I think he still endorses them. They still appear to be selling his signature harp at any rate.

A friend of mine had complaints about the odor of the wood too. He got one online a couple years ago.
