Has anyone had any experience with the Peavey H5 Harp Mic? I currently use a Hohner Blues Blaster, which I like but wish it had an on/off switch as well as the volume knob.

I not positive, but it looks just like the SuperLux I own, minus the on-off switch. I've happily been using the SuperLux for a year and a half. I prefer it over my JT-30, Shaker, or any other mic I own. Its a dynamic mic not a crystal. I've found I actually prefer a dynamic over a crystal. Crystals are too "muddy" for my tastes. They are not as good at articulation, IMHO. Also, since I'm sort of a klutz, you can only drop a crystal mic once. I spent a whole afternoon trying every mic I own into my Bassman, and the SuperLux was my favorite.

I decided to buy the relatively recently produced Peavy H5 harp mic ($100.) and I am really pleased with it. For the price, it's an excellent mic - compact, owerful, easy to hold and sounds terrific with my Blues Jr. Used it for a gig with my Blues band the other night and it worked perfectly.

I use the H5-C on a regular basis. The cable is about 10' long. The mini-XLR is just as the name implies. An XLR that's about 1/4 the size of your regular XLR plug. It hasn't given me any problems yet.

@nacoran: I've always loved the 'net term "necromancer". As in folks who revive old posts from the dead! Just one of those lovely terms from the '90's that doesn't get used as much as it used to... :)

Wow! I haven't used that mic in a while. I switched to a 585,same amp and a new addition an SJ.

If you're still considering this mic, lemme just say that IMHO, you'd be better off with the H5 or H5-C than just about any other new bullet currently in production. It knocks the pants off the 520DX, Bluesblaster, JT30RH, Retrorocket, Torpedo, and Red Howler for tone. The on/off switch give you extra control, and the topside grooves allow better gripping.

There are only two mods I might recommend. First, different connection than the mini-XLR, simply because it'd be more versatile with a more common connector, like a 5/8" screw-on or a 1/4" female. Second, the stock element is a decent dynamic, but you can find better ones. A vintage Shure CM or CR would rock it, but I've had good success with old Akai or Calrad dynamic elements as well.
