I just shipped a load of Hohner harps to MP for him to replace/repair faulty or blown out reeds. I've been looking around at some of you Seydel guys' sites, but I don't see anything explicitly advertised about these same services that Mark does on Hohners.

I have five Session Standards that are blown, and I'm wondering if any of you guys here in the States do, in fact, repair/replace reeds in Seydels for a price comparable to Mark's.

Yes, I know replacement reedplates are available. But I'm just trying to see if I can't expand my range of options when it comes to economical maintainence.

Email me off-forum.

If you haven't got my reply via email...

Tell Mark that Seydels and Hohner HM have inter compatible reeds 1-5
So if you broke any of those, he can fix them using reeds from Hohner MB, MB deluxe, MB crossover, GM, old bluesharps, or sp20s.

i'll have to disagree w/ jim.

i have a D MB plate and a D Solist pro plate in front of me as i type this post.

the Hohner is narrow slot from hole 4-10
the Seydel is narrow slot from hole 5-10

this is the case with both makes in the keys of Db through high G. (G through C are also different but let's stick with what i have in front of me.)

you cannot use the 4 draw E on a Hohner in D to replace the 4 draw E on a Seydel D. the Hohner reed is too narrow.
you would have to use a wide slot Hohner reed and cut it to fit. then tune it up. ok fine.

Seydels 5 draw is real fun. narrow slot hohner reeds are wider and longer than narrow slot Seydels. so...now what?

i don't do Seydels because i don't have Seydel donor reeds and 5 is the most common reed to blow.

yes MP,

Db and up are short slot. They won't do the trick. But regular keys are ok.

5 draw on seydels should be equal to honer HM. Unless it's some old standard or something.

Hey MP, can you help me complete the reed compatibility table?

hi jim,
what is Hohner HM? do you mean MS?

i only know a little about reed compatibility on hohners. as far as compatibility between hohners and
other harmonicas i've never explored the matter further than Hohners and Seydels.

so, what i have written here is the extent of my knowlege. ie;

Hohners from low D up to regular C are narrow slot #6 and above.
Hohners from regular Db up to high G are narrow slot at #4

sorry i can't be of more help.

if you join richard sleighs mailing list he'll send you a hohner compatibility chart, but you probably already have that knowledge.

If Hawk sent his harps to Mike, they are in very good hands.

I have one of his harps----it's fantastic.

Yes indeed. Mike was the first to write me, so I'm gonna go with him. But I'll keep Jones in mind for the future.
