In an earlier thread I was talking about my journey to work each day for the past 8 years listening to the same cassette (King Bee by Muddy Waters).
Well Florida Trader let me know about a little gizmo that lets you plug in a dummy cassette and then plug in your mp3 player to that. I finally got one today from ebay for £4 and my life has changed ......I drove to work tonight with a big smile on my face. I miss Muddy and all but I'm learning to live without him very quickly.
Thank you FT..you made my Decade!!

There is usually a technological solution. I used to have one for my CD player that I'd plug into the cassette deck in my car. Then the cassette deck broke. Then the radio broke. The only noise my car makes now is this strange knocking from the engine that I'm not as big a fan of, although if you 'squint' your ears enough the squeak of the breaks sounds a little like an electric guitar and the rumble sounds like drums. If you duct tape a harmonica to the vents and you've got a whole band. Like I said, there is always a technological solution. :)

Wow! That is high praise indeed. Goes to show you - you never know when a simple idea or message or even a word will make a positive difference to someone. I'm glad that it has worked out for you. ----------

I've never owned a car, but my brother has a CD loader in his boot. I quickly realised that nowadays mp3s are the only sensible option for in-car music. All you need is a little docking station and then stick your iPod in. ----------

The last two cars I've owned, an '09 Impala and now a '10 Cobalt, have both been eqipped with the little aux in port on the stereo face. I love it. Just plug the double end cable in my phone and the port, lets me listen to my MP3's, talk hands free, even amplify youtube video sound through my car.
But I do remember the days when I had to use the cassette adapter to listen to my CD player in the car. Technology keeps on rolling out... ----------

Yea, my car has that AUX port. But it also has a USB port. A guy at work goes on and on about his $200 Ipad or whatever the hell it is (I'm illiterate in this area) and how much music he has on it and the ease of listening in the car etc. So I says to myself "hmmmm." So self says back to me "$200?....screw that bro." I went out and bought a little 4 gig USB for about $10 bucks. So far I have about 14 complete albums/CD's on there plus a few single songs, and still have 3 gigs of space left. It plugs right into the port in my car and the CD title as well as song titles come up on the radio dial/screen where the radio stations would normally show. So both me and myself are happy! ---------- Tommy

I'm a big fan of those little USB devices. I bought a 120GB iPod Classic and hated it. I used to have it 99% full, but it just crashed in the middle of each track and rebooted itself. Now I only have it about 10% full and it seems to work, but it's probably the most disappointing thing I've ever bought. ----------

I've had many of those cassette adapters and got tired of them. The wire goes bad over time and the sound quality is just so-so. Better than nothing thoug.
I Just bought and installed a cheap ($75 + shipping) Kenwood unit to replace the original radio CD player in my old Camry wagon. It has both usb in and an aux. mini stereo connector. The iphone can control it or you can control the ipod from the unit. The sound quality improved noticably. IF you can hassel the wiring and instalation yourself I say go for it. - The cassette adapter is hack compared to this, - and you will pay for three of them over the next two years anyway. ----------
