Panorama Jazz band - klezmer & other influenced + John Boutte - both of New Orleans. Heard them both for the first time this last trip and bought their CD's - new Hazmat Modine also on the playlist as is 7 Walkers
- as pertains to recent threads - that Harmonica Red cut is sooo Butterfield influenced - and not just the words, I'm talking his harp playing style ----------

In my car CD changer: Taj Mahal-The Best Of The Women of Antone's-various artists Paul DeLay-Heavy Rotation Bud Powell Trio- Bud Plays Bird Gina Sicilia-Can't control Myself Jimmy Pritchard- Goin' Down 9 The last 2 are ones I was given to possibly review for our blues society newsletter. A nice perc! Never heard of Harmonica Red. I like!
I have a 60 mile journey to and from work each day (or night depending on what shift I'm working). I drive a 10 year old Nissan Micra which is equipped with a radio cassette player and I only own 1 tape which was given to me by my harp teacher about 8 years ago which is the "King Bee" album by Muddy Waters. I have played this tape every day I go to and from work for the past 8 years and I would say that I know this album intimately. As the automatically flips over when it reaches the end of one side, it has never been removed from the tape player in all those years and I'm afarid to do so now in case I break it. Luckily I really like this album and especially like the shambolic "my eyes keep me in trouble" ---------- Oisin
@osin Every day for 8 years! Holy shite.I luv Muddy but that would do my head in. Mind you i have just listened to Boogie Chillen off Hooker 'n Heat 3 times in a row. ( that is one track that drives my wife MAD! so when shes out on it goes 8^)
Jehosaphat.....I do also listen to the radio sometimes but the start of the drive is always Muddy. Unfortunately the radio stations here in the UK are mostly crap with the exception of BBC radio 4 and the odd pirate radio station. There's only 1 blues programme that I know of on BBC radio 2 but it starts after I get to work.
Rich DelGrosso's "Get You Nose Outta My Bizness!" It has some killer blues mandolin in it, which is a new interest of mine AND James Harmon blows harp on most of the cuts too. I'm totally double-dipping and stuff to steal. -Bob ---------- http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/Bourbon-Bleach/161722307208585
Paul Butterfeld (Offer You Can't Refuse/PBBB/East West/Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw/In my Own Dream/Keep on moving/Fathers & Sons...should keep me going thru Xmas!) ---------- www.myspace.com/markburness
Jeff Watts - WATTS Nathaniel Mayer - I Just Want to be Held Mary Lou Williams - My Mama Pinned a Rose on me
Wow was Nathaniel Mayer a surprise. I don't even remember hearing of him before. If you like the dirty low down you owe it to yourself to at least check out samples of I Just Want to be Held on the I Tunes Store.
Yeah, I would have to say that all 3 of these recordings are very good to superb. I would recommend all of them unless of course you are in some way averse to the respective genres.

Oisin - you can get an adapter that fits into your cassette deck that has a wire coming out of it with a standard jack on the end that will fit an IPad, a cell phone or an MP3 player. The adapter costs about $10 and you can get a mini 4 Gb MP3 player for $20 and load 500 songs on it. For about $30 you can turn your car into a high tech sound studio. Muddy is great but I was thinking that you might want a little variety and since you say the radio is sub-par, this might be a good option for you.
Oh and by the way, to answer the original question of this thread, I've been listing to a lot of Gary Primich - Company Man. ---------- ">
George Thorogood's tribute album to Chess Records 2120 South Michigan Avenue. There's only 2 songs with harp (played by Charlie Musselwhite). There should have been more since a harmonica was in most of the original versions of the songs that are covered, but it's a good album.
Dennis Gruenling's excellent Thursday blues radio show on WFDU. Streaming it on my iphone with the free WFDU radio app, which works great BTW. The app allows you to stream and listen to the radio show in the background while you use your phone for whatever else. Awesome.
