I was just wondering if any of you folks have, or have had at any point, any classic American steel that you cruised around in. I saw Todd has one of the new Camaros, which I wasn't too keen on when they first came out, but they've grown on me since.
I almost secured my baby three years ago, but someone beat me to the punch a couple weeks before I had the last of the cash together. I still see it around town sometimes, and it breaks my heart every time I hear that 350 rumble past me. A rebuilt 1977 Chevy Nova Rally. Here she is...

Back in 1975 and 1976 I had an awesome 1965 GTO hardtop with a 4 speed Muncie and a 389 with a hot cam and a large four barrel carb. It sadly was totalled while parked next to a brick building. Kind of looked like an accordion when all was done... The closest I've come to that since then was in November of 2009 I bought my wife a 2010 Camaro LT2. I almost never drive it, but when I have it has evoked the feeling I got when behind the wheel of my GTO. ---------- snakes in Snohomish

Oh yeah I have a muscle car I built 2 years ago and more recently Manx style dune buggy. First time I've done anything with the VW beetle platform. I had so much fun building it for my wife that I am now in the process of building myself a Manx dune buggy. I have stripped it down to just the naked pan and will be cutting it in half to shorten it so it will fit the Manx II body I have. A neighbor walked by and asked when this project would be done I thought a little bit and then said probably January or February. He laughed and said in what year? I don't know how to post pictures or some of you would be laughing too but I will get it done.
It's not really considered American muscle since it was built in Northern Ireland, but for about 3 months I DID own a 1982 DeLorean DMC-12. Had some money left to me and thought, "You know, I've always wanted one", so I bought one from a guy in Indy. I was 17 at the time and when I saw the insurance and maintenance figures for it, turned around and sold the sucker. Wish I hadn't now. Coulda had some fun modifications with that thing. :-) ---------- Hawkeye Kane
Kudzu has a sweet old baby blue GMC truck that he drove to Hill Country Harmonica. There are pics on the HCH site. (Adam, ever fix that coolant leak I found?) ---------- Todd L. Greene
Here are before pix of the body. Number 226 of 300 made. The engine is scattered all over my bench and the chassis is on saw horses getting ready to be cut in half. Not American; the body is though. And not muscle but I am working on purchasing some more muscle right now. I need a bigger garage.
Do believe you're right tmf. Comet Cyclone to be exact. Mercury's prolly the one classic make I'm not too good at identifying. ---------- Hawkeye Kane

66 Cyclone GT. It is one of the 100 official pace cars made that year for the Indy 500. Is it alright to brag about a first place award at the car show this past weekend? Hawkeye most people do the same thing and the majority ask me if it's a GTO. Very good job TM and nice ride. Todd!! I live in the caladium capital of the world! That mural is down the street from my office and even locals say that's a nice picture you took down at the caladium fields. It's really the side of a service center.

Well, I thought the body smacked of Ford but I knew it wasn't a Fairlane or a Falcon. Good image to imprint on for pointing them out in the future. Can't say I'm surprised you won at the car show, man. She's a wet dream on wheels! ---------- Hawkeye Kane
I came within a hair of owning a '65 Lincoln Continental with all the bells and whistles, and would have learned to drive on a '70 Catalina except for an incompetent garage that set the thing on fire in their bay. I drive an '87 Nissan 200SX... that's a classic isn't it? No? ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer (A list of all sorts of useful threads)
Let's see... '64 Falcon Sprint ragtop, built 302, T-10 four speed, a very fun car. '69 Camaro RS conv. 350 4 speed, also fun. '73 El Camino SS, wife #1 wrecked it. All were years ago, now my toy car is a '59 Triumph TR3a, very nice but hardly American or muscle. (I do have a hot-rod 327 motor on the shelf, waiting for the right home) ---------- I used to be young and foolish. Now I'm not so young.
Tmf, that's one fine ride. I like how similar the new Challengers are to that body style.
LR-Those caladium farmers didn't give you hell about blowing exhaust fumes all over their cash crops, or did you push the cars in place for the photo(the p.c. answer)?
The car I most regret selling was a '66 Mustang Coupe with a 289 and Pony interior and factory air-it was a beauty.
Oh, my Camaro being classified as American Muscle needs a slight disclaimer:It's NORTH American muscle, since it was made in Canada! At least rhe continent is right.
I like British stuff too, Aston Martin in particular. (Check this new Ford Concept out. Looks a LOT like an AM. http://autos.yahoo.com/photos/ford-evos-concept-1315860648-slideshow/)
TR's aren't really muscular, but they're nimble and agile little sonsobitches.
A 327, eh? My ex-father-in-law has a '67 El Camino SS with a 327 in her. Only it's got an Eaton supercharger on it. I spent every weekend for a while there helping him get that thing running again. Soon as it fired, what does he do? Does a drag run and pulls a 7K RPM burn. Burnt out ALL the electrics in it.
I've found 327's work VERY well in Chevy II/Novas.
@Todd
She's assembled in Canada, but I still consider her American since the majority of her components were made in the USA.
@Nate
It's VERY close. General rule of thumb is that for it to be a classic, it needs to be 25 years or older. So, next year, it'll technically be a classic. An '87 eh? Those were the American rebadged Silvias in those days. Very nice!

I love the '50 p/u Harpcrab, I've had several of them in the past. that '71 Challenger is absolutly gorgeous tmf714, my best friend in high school had one is daddy bought him.. the stupid SOB. totaled it while driving drunk, it had the 340 six-pak 4-speed that was in '74. right now I have a '57 chevy p/u.. Kustom, '30 chevy p/u rat rod.. '69 jeepster commando.. and my good ol' trusty harley shovel head.. my toys keep me sane. now if I can just figure out how to make a mount to hold my Bassman amp on my bike I would be rael happy...lol. nice rides guys.
Seems like you'd almost be better off mounting a sidecar on your shovelhead to carry your Bassman. LOL
What year is your Harley? I know a guy with a kickstart '56. He sometimes puts a s/c on it just because it fits the antique look. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
I have a 1980 FLT. I stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt it with 1995 road king front end parts. and bags the rest is cool, it looks like a '95 R/K but with a Shovelhead motor. I've got about 170K on it and she just keeps going.....believe me I've thought about a sidecar....aaahhhh..no just can't get over the look..not on THIS bike anyways. I've had this bike for about 15 yrs. I won't ever sell this one. BUT I revolve through other bikes pretty quick so maybe I'll find a neet little BSA or Triumph or some thing that looks cool with a sidecar..there's lots of stuff here in SoCal.
Triumphs are sweet. Our bassist has an old T120 Bonneville and a Kz1000. Loves them both. I like BSA's too. Especially the old 60's era Lightnings. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
Ive been without anything to drive for awhile,but this last month I got a 92 firebird convertable,there was only around 800 made in the 92 convertible,It needs a paint job and some trim,but it has a decent body and runs good,It has a V8 with a shift kit and will get 2nd gear scratch,but i dont hot rod it,cause ive been without a car for a long time and the gas for it is hard on my wallet,But I wouldnt mind trying to restore it some day,and its fun to drive with the top down. ---------- Hobostubs
That mustang looks nice,Mercedesrules,them and the new challengers are my 2 favorite cars out now,I would Buy either 1 if I ever win the lottery,Over the super cars,There so cool.And less than 6 digets ;-) ---------- Hobostubs
THATS a beauuuuutiful '54. is she stock under her skirt? did you do the work to get her that way. looks like the bumpers are off a'52/'53 Pontiac. PLEASE tell me she has a 302 GMC with a couple of carters out a set of split fentons all the way out to the back........boy that nice. hope you enjoy.
If anything confirms that the Harp is primarily a mans instrument it has to be this OT.. LoL Handbags anyone?
Not American..but i once owned a mint 1974 GTS Monaro (Aussie) running a 350 chev.. until it was stolen to order by a local gang. Todd I assume you don't play Harp for a living? ;-)
Last Edited by on Oct 24, 2011 8:40 PM
jehosaphat-You are correct...as much as I love to play, I wouldn't want to do it for a living. I'm happy when I play, instead of seeing it solely as a job I have to do to make ends meet-I like it that way. ---------- Todd L. Greene
I wonder if there's a correlation between playing harp and being interested in their rides. All of those I know who play harp either have Harley's or Hot Rods. I think Piazza is a motorhead.

The American made Aero TT held the record for a while-until Bugatti unveiled the Veyron Super Sport. The Aero TT clocked in at 25.18-then the Bugatti eclipsed that run with a 267.86 run. The war continues,but for now ,it's the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport-
Johnny Sansone is into classic motorcycles-he rides an old MotoGuzzi around town, and he tinkers with them a lot. Harvey Berman has had his hand in the guts of a motorbike or two as well. ---------- Todd L. Greene
Here's some pics of my Honda CBX-Japanese muscle made in the USA-Marysville,Ohio to be exact-six cylinders-about 120 horsepower-top speed over 145 MPH-
That you in the driver seat Adam? Boy, you've lost some hair since I last saw you. ;-)
@tmf714
I actually watched the Top Gear episode on the Veyron SS. James May himself held the record for about five minutes, until the Bugatti pro driver at the track took the helm right after him and beat him out by about 6 or 7 mph.
@Pluto
I think that's just a correlation for all musicians in general. Like I said, our bassist has the two bikes and an '80 Jeep CJ5 with a Chevy 350 in it. Our drummer has three Harleys. Bandleader has an 85 Sportster. Another guy who I've played with on occaision has a '67 Plymouth Sport Fury droptop. I had my DeLorean....the list just kinda runs on. ---------- Hawkeye Kane
