Went to a freinds last night to play a little. On the way home I stopped at a sandwich shop in a pretty decent area. I was in there for about 10 minutes. When I came out the passenger window of my truck was broken. They took all my gear from behind the seats. I dont know how they even knew anything was back there unless they were looking for tools or something. This is what they got:
Epiphone Valve Jr combo JT-30 Mic Boss DS-1 pedal 6 Manji's (G,A,Bb,C,D,F) misc cables Tennis racket (worth about $175.00) tote with tie downs, C-clamps, flashlight
I am pretty pissed! Total loss after getting the window fixed will be close to $1000.00
I guess I should have sold my other Mic and Gretsch Amp!
Sorry about whining but I just had to vent!
Sticking with my solid state amps as I use them mostly anyway. Anyone have any suggestions on a pedal and mic for under $200.00 to get me playing amped again?

man i am sorry to hear this. there are just some desperate people in the world.
my first ever amp and mic were a crate II solid state amp and a lavalier type mic. between amp and mic i ran a boss dd2 digi delat to wet things up some. the dd2 will run about $100 so you have a bit of room for a mic. maybe a couple of low z's off fleabay or craig's or from a pawn shop would be a good idea for variety of sound. ---------- http://www.reverbnation.com/jawboneandjolene

That really sucks. Will your car insurance cover the theft? For $200 maybe one of the lone wolf pedals to improve the tone of your solid state amp and an Akai DM13 mic off of Ebay.

Not sure about the insurance. It's still early, I will be calling them later today. You should have seen the look on the cops face when I told him the harmonicas are worth $50 a piece. Most people figure they are 5 bucks like the toy ones. I have a friend that can do the window so I wont get ripped off on that. I honestly dont know if car insurance will cover items in the car, I might check with my house insurance too.
Man it sucked to have to come home and tell my wife what happened. It felt like I got my ass kicked in front of her. I am emabarrassed about the whole thing but its not like I left it on the front seat with the doors unlocked. You really couldnt see anything at all.

Yeah, definitely look locally, file a police report, etc. Most importantly, YOU are ok. Stuff is stuff-it can be replaced. It sucks-I've been ripped off a few times myself-I'm familar with that feeling of being 'violated'. Keep us posted if you recover any of it. Most thieves have no use for any of that stuff, so no doubt it'll be sold off. If you have pics of any of the items, print them uop and keep them handy. ---------- Todd L. Greene

There's probably nothing that feels worse than having some asshat break into your truck and steal sh*# out of it. That feeling of being violated lingers for a long time. I've had two cars broken into. Both times they stole the radio head unit. One car they took a knife and cut the dash "for fun". I can feel your pain. I like the idea of getting in touch with local pawn shops and you may put an ad on craigslist listing the stolen property. Sorry to hear about this. Where are you located?

I just called my auto insurance and they will cover the window but with a $250.00 deductable so that doesn't help. Anything inside needs to go through my homeowners insurance but I'm not sure they will cover it. I have a call into them now.
I am keeping an eye on craigslist, ebay, and the local pawn shops.

Berringer delay pedal $30 works great, been using one for several years. Find an SM 57 in a pawn shop $50 or less. I read you have SS amp.If not a 5 watt PigNose works and it's only $80. Mike

My mate got his Fender Strat '68 back from the pawnshop after it had been stolen from his apartment while he was asleep.
He knew the serial number and so 2 weeks later he got a call from the shop.
He saw the thief on video bringing it into the shop and recognised the guy.
He went round to see him later...he aint walking too good

Rockin Ron has a series of Danelectro FAB pedals for $18 a piece. Check those out. They're cheap, but they work very well. You can get the reissue JT30 on musiciansfriend for $50. I know they aren't as good as the vintage ones, but I always had pretty good luck with them.
As to your window issue, have you tried Safelite? They replaced the back window in my van for 300. I'd imagine a passenger window wouldn't be as much. ----------

This, unfortunately, will happen to everyone in the business and it did happen to me as well. One thing to remember is don't leave ANY of your stuff unguarded in your vehicle EVER. Most thieves probably won't know what to do with musical isntrument equipment but there are thieves who also play music as well, and this ain't no BS. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Stories like these turn up on the forum way too often. Let us know how the insurance turns out. I wonder if there is a rider you can get to cover gear in a car. It might be worth all of us looking into.
I hope they recover your stuff. I've never had my car broken into, but I had a storage unit get burgled and it's a terrible feeling. Good luck. :(

I used to price Auto & Home insurance. For the stuff taken out of the vehicle, file a homeowners claim. I don't remember IN specifically, but many states don't apply deductibles or copays to windows. In some of the states that allow out-of-pocket expenses, riders are available to avoid that. Check with your insurance company about that - you may have to push a little, they don't want to part with money...
Good luck!

RT123: Don't overlook your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy. An apartment I once moved into was burglarized immediately after a cross-country move. Turned out my homowner's insurance on the old place was still in force. The insurance company paid for everything without question or hassle. The one and only time I've been treated well by an insurance company!

Maybe some of us live close enough that we can keep an eye out in the pawn shops. Where do you live? Good luck, Jay PS--My wife had her purse stolen the night before last in a church parking lot...cell phone, credit cards, cash, checkbook, etc, etc,...and her address book that she's been using for 20+ years! A friend of mine recommended against putting any bumper stickers on a car/van that would flag it as a Musician's vehicle. e.g. Mesa Boogie,...
Same friend put an oscilloscope in the back seat of my car without telling me when I was helping him more a bunch of stuff to a studio in downtown San Francisco, and you can guess what happened when the thieves spotted it - they were sharper than me. They ended up taking everything that wasn't bolted down, which luckily was mostly dirty clothes and old cassette tapes. The scope wasn't worth much, but must have looked interesting.

No Prov? No kidding - I'm in Coventry (the "ri" in my userid is for good ol' Rhody). Kevin (chromaticblues) is also located here in Rhodilan.
I "got" to use my insurance knowledge a few years back at the Warwick Mall. Among the haul were a few Blues Harps and a recorder I used for playing. What got me p'd off, though, was that they took my kids stuff - DVD player, DVDs, my son's digital camera...

First off, thanks for all the offers and support guys. I really appreciate it, but I will get back on my feet. I know religion isn't allowed, LOL, but god bless everyone for their well wishes!
I emailed my homeowners a list of the items and a few receipts I had laying around. I should be getting something but I am going through the "red tape" of trying them to drop the deductable. I should be able to get something back anyway. The window is already fixed and my friend did it for $100.00 and a case of beer. I helped him drink it too so that worked out!
@ricanefan - I was parked behind Santoros in North Providence. I spoke to kevin (chromaticblues) - he is a great guy. I also know Rift pretty well, he is also from RI in Cumberland. He is cool as hell too! I havent been to Coventry much recently. Been there years ago when I had a friend that lived in Foster.

There's a lot of bad people in the world luckily enough there is a lot of good people too.
The people who stole your gear most likely won't have a clue where to sell it, unless they know some dodgy Musicians .
I would try all the local music shops or sell it centrers & ask if anybody has been in trying to sell them your gear

I'm with Gene. I'm a big proponent of proactive and forced karmic balloon payments. Hunt them down and collect.
Many people will say that is unreasonable and that initiating violence is uncivilized and barbaric. So be it. Call me old fashioned. Thieves are bullshit.

The theives, if caught, should be made to re-enact the prisoner side of Midnight Express-some good old-fashioned Turkish justice. Go ahead and roll the cameras-make examples of them.
Now, THAT'S some 'reality television' I would tune in for.
EDIT:Note, I've spent some time in Turkey(no, not in prison)and the majority of folks I met, besides rug salesmen, were warm and friendly folk. Oliver Stone depicted the entire populace of Turkey as a bunch of sadistic meanies. That is NOT the case in reality, but it's what all theives deserve to face. ---------- Todd L. Greene

NEVER leave your shit in the back seat. EVER. That is the first rule. I don't care how tired or drunk you may be, put the gear in the trunk. I've helped a few pros load their gear after a gig, and I have yet to see any of them put stuff in the back seat unless it was an extra guitar that would not fit in the trunk. And we are talking about keyboard players, bassists, harp players, drummers etc.

RT that would not be good! Yeah your right about a club of some sort? I was part of the Nashville Blues Society and it was great! After I moved the RI I've trying to get info on the New England Blues Society and it's like a secret Society or something. I think there is a portal in downtown Boston like in Harry Potter when they get on the train to go to the school. Thats it must be you have to be magic to join.

Lol...the badest? I never said my neighborhood was the "badest." From experience I can tell you there is always someplace or someone better or badder. "But" My neighborhood can be looked up and it was one of those places movies were made from. The baddest? Naaahh..not really. Dangerous, gang and drug infested, half burned to the ground? Yes.
