@jodanchudan.... loved it....maybe more of this can be used in movie soundtracks...not just the obligatory "train tracks" harp when somebody falls into deep depression in a film.
OK enough is enough!!! after two and a half hours trying to install a host server, actually two host's. mediafire and divshare. my laptop locked up once I lost my sound file.... god knows where it's at.. but who ever finds it, I hope you enjoy it. I gave up.. for the night. I need to find my PIPE and take a break. why can't I just down load from my media file to say my quicktime player and have that play ?????? why does it have to be so complicated.... I admit it.. I DO NOT KNOW COMPUTERS PERIOD. but I'm not going let kick my ass. pass that pipe over here.
@Stones, I am not the most savy computer user, but I downloaded, figured out dropbox and got my clip posted in about 10 minutes

Okay, I setup a dropbox account, learned how to use it, also learned how to use my new digital recorder, converted the files to wav, exported it to my computer, converted it to mp3, uploaded to dropbox and (hopefully) embedded it here. Here goes...
Well done fellas. Bingo Kingo, I couldn't think of one technique you didn't throw into that, it was good. OzarkRich was deep down low and dirty. Sorry about the learning curve.
Wow, more great stuff! Kingo: I loved how you took it to the edge and just kept it there. really fantastic! Ozark: I LOVE me some low harp action. Good job! ---------- == I S A A C ==
Yeah! Now we've got some of you guys up to speed on posting your soundfiles how about someone kicking off a new thread with Under 30 seconds, turnarounds, licks, starts, endings, chuggs etc? ----------

Yep it's off Botheration. It's a good album ,I've only got that one and "dog house Music". Gary had great tone and I loved the way he played a shuffle. ----------
A harp mash-up would be cool idea Tooka but I wouldn't know where begin with that one. I don't have Skype and I don't know of any other way of having a virtual jam. ----------
Yeah, ditto with that. It's a great idea. I can make a backing track and leave gaps in it for others to join in, but I don't know how we'd sort out downloading it.
Let's see, if jodan had a backing track on which he played harp and left spaces for you and then sent an mp3 to you to fill in the spaces. Then if you have the kit to play the mp3 and add your harp and record at the same time to create a new mp3. That should do it, I think. What am I missing folks? ----------
There is a site called Indaba that is supposed to be great for collaborating artists, but it's behind a pay wall so I've never checked it out. The easiest way would probably be to send tracks back and forth and use a program like Audacity to line them up (some computers are slower and you may actually have to realign the tracks after recording because of lag but that isn't too hard as long as they are the recorded to match. you could start with a click track.) I think lag is too much on Skype.
I think that's how I'd do it... record a click track and pick a key and have people record to the click track (using headphones so the click track doesn't get recorded.) Then just line it up in whatever audio software you are using. You could do it in sections back and forth so each performer got to hear what the other did/is doing.
Thinks. Wonder if it could be done with YouTube in some way. Ant uses YouTube. If you (jodan) made a youTube track, Ant could play along to it and record his YouTube file at the same time?????? Ant uses a video camera so it should be viable unless his missus has imprisoned him in the garage. ----------

I'll try the mp3 idea - I'll try and sort out a backing track at the weekend.
@Nacoran - I get lag all the time on audacity and I've got no idea how to fix it. I tend to respond by swearing at the computer and abandoning the recording.

Isaac! That's so much better than how I do it. I always just clip a bit from the front end until they line up, but I have to do it again each time.
edit- although it seems to me that there should be an even more automatic way to do this. There should be a one touch button to auto correct it. It could work by sending sound to the speakers and recording at the same time. A couple sharp clicks with easy to measure wave fronts would allow it to calibrate itself just about perfectly. Oh well, maybe someone will write an extension.

Hi Nacoran, I'm using Google Chrome. I've just had a look at the settings, but I can't locate one to stop the simultaneous playback of all the audio files. It sounds pretty cool, as I'm a lover of Captain Beefheart :-)
edit: Sorry BronzeWailer, I had to change your code. WMA's embeded this way seem to cause the Chrome Browser to freeze. The way I redid it seems to fix the problem. Nate
edit: Thanks Nate. Sorry for all the trouble.

sharing with audacity is simple. you put the audacity project in your dropbox and then share the folder with your collaborators. I have done it with my gutarist mate. you can then then multitrack record as if you were in the same room. just don't try to both do it at the same time ---------- "Come on Brackett let's get changed"
wow, some great stuff here, and plenty of little nuances to try out. have to admit though was a bit confused when i came to this page with my volume on full and all the embeds started auto-playing! not the nicest tone i can tell you haha sven
Harpocrates, that's odd, I'm not getting anything autostarting, (except oddly, if I post an mp3 using the suggested forum code, but then it's only my post, and it's only mp3's, not waves.) I'm using Chrome too. Is it every file or just most of them? I'm trying to trouble shoot this issue.
I wanna get in on this BUT my computer doesn't have a built in mic. Heres my questions: a) what's a cheap reasonable mic? (and I'm talking cheap. The mic will NOT be the limiting factor here b) can I record it right Ito audacity and be good to go?
At Virginia Harmonica Fest 2011, Todd Parrot was showing this riff to 2 of us in the lobby. I have been practicing it for a week now. It takes me 6 seconds to do what he does in 4.

Seven.oh.three, cheap is all depends on your wallet. I've got a Blue Yeti, which runs about $100. It's a great, versatile computer mic. I used to use a little mic that came with my computer 2 or 3 computers ago. It cost $15 then and I'd feel ripped off if I paid that much for it now, but with a little experimenting with distance and volume I got it to work okay. And of course, microphones can run into the thousands of dollars. If $100 sounds cheap to you, the Yeti is great (I was only able to afford it with a birthday gift certificate, but if that's pricey, you can probably play into any microphone you can pick up in any store. I actually get pretty good results with the microphone built into my camera sometimes.
Yeah, then you can record it into Audacity. The only catch there is you'll probably need the lame encoder to turn it from an Audacity project file into an mp3. That's actually it's name. Lame encoder! For crazy legal reasons Audacity can't include it in the Audacity download so you have to go download it separately. It's free too. If you follow the instructions on the page (there is a link from the Audacity site) it just takes a couple minutes. You have to actually put the file in the right folder, but they tell you how to do it. Then host the file on any of a number of different sites and follow the instructions on the how to page.
Yeah, after that you are good to go. :) (It's about 3 steps more than it should be, but it works and except the microphone it's free.) Some guys also are recording with their phones. Phones sometimes record a lot better than you'd expect them to. To make the call clear they have to invest in at least okay mics.
Nacoran, yet again, Thanks! Maybe this would be a good addition to the thread organizer? It's is somebody's signature around here. I'm sure he'll chime in!! Ha. Thanks Nate!
Holy damn Batman. Jeeze, no newbies here? Can't compete but what the hell. Playing less than a year. Just picked up a low C. First take, no edits. It's ugly but it's here.

This is a great thread - loads of cool clips here. My favourite's 7LimitJI's so far.
EDIT: By the way, the duo idea mentioned above - I've posted some tracks on a new thread called collaborative jam tracks, so anyone, feel free to play along and post your version.
