I have my first significant gig this Saturday at The Slippery Noodle in downtown Indianapolis. This is 'the' place for blues in Indy. I'm sitting in with a band for a set or two.

I've only been playing for about 6 months, but having played with this band in the past they not only invited me back, but are bringing me to a big stage event.

On the bill are "Stormy Monday," "Messin' w/ the Kid," "She Caught the Katy" and other blues covers.

Looking forward to it, but also a little reserved about it.

I'm hoping to try and channel some of the mojo from this forum. /shakes goat hoves at monitor

Good Luck Rasputin!

I'll try to make it out if I can. Unfortunately the kids keep me away from the Noodle these days. Nice to see another person from Indianapolis here!

Good luck - it will be a great learning experience at the very least! Everyone remembers their first gig, it's very special & personal. Just make sure to stay in the pocket and not overplay or try and do too much - have fun and so will your audience!!

Make sure to report back to us!!

Hey, man, have fun! If you LOOK like you're having fun, and ACT like you're having fun, not only WILL you have fun but the crowd will love you too. Just be sure to LISTEN well and remember to take that thing out of your mouth once in a while.

@ Bobo - I've played 2 years worth in 6 months I bet. Jumped in both feet, played every day back and forth on my hour commute and 3 nights a week. One day alone I probably put in 8 hours. I've played guitar in bands for 15+ years, so I had a leg up on theory and progressions.

But I don't want to be a guitar player that plays harp, I'm a harp player that plays guitar. That's how much I've fallen in love with it.

@ Lip - The Trevor Reynolds Band. My buddy is the drummer. Played out with them a few times, and a few open mics here and there.

I told my wife I have 3 self imposed rules...

1. Communicate with "Trevor"
2. Have Fun
3. Communicate with "Trevor"

It's his band, and he's the man. Having played out a number of years, I know sometimes the best note is silent. :D

Thanks everyone!

Do we tell harmonica players good luck or break a leg? Do we count as show-folk?

@nacoran - 'break a reed' might be better for harpoonists!

run!.....fast and far!!!
You're not ready!!!!

LOL!! Someone had to say it in jest!!

Like Greg says....and everyone else.

Shoulders back, head up, be BAD..not an asshole, but bad. It's the blues. Your experience with theory and progression should be a huge plus for you up there in front of the crowd. Focus on the hottest babe in the crowd, and play for her in secret...don't tell your wifey...Hell, they call you back. That says it all...I want a full report in the morning!

Couldn't have gone much better. Played 4-5 songs per set, 3 sets. Sound guy ran a bad cable to my rig's xlr out, so I just ran my Fireball V straight in and it sounded great on the house PA.

I flat out melted the room on my second solo. Those 4 measures were the best I ever played. Rest of the night was butter after that. Went conservative on Stormy Monday but hit all the changes. Probably left too much on the table there but oh well.

Got a lot of great compliments and the band was happy. So that was pretty much why I started playing harp. For nights like that.

Thanks everyone. The mojo was with me.

Jamming with some friends tomorrow night. No real goal, just to play.

Pic from the show is now in my sig.

Yeah I did get your email about the Bean Blossom Blues Festival. I've heard about it for years, but have never been. I'll definitely think about camping and checking that out this year. Sounds like a lot of people hook up and jam.

Thanks to Adam and Jason for all their videos, which have helped me a lot. Without them I would still be noodling around and not "learning" how to play.
