My area just turned into Alaska!

The snow has accumulated more than 3 feet! With drifts higher than 5 feet! I can't open my door!

It's still full blown snowing and we are supposed to get an additional 1 inch per hour! Anyone else hit?

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO NORTHERN ILLINOIS!?!?!?!???

I'll take some pictures and post them here within the hour

We are supposed to get an extra 2" per hour until 3:00 pm. On top of the few feet we already have.

Not as bad here in MO but it has shut everything down. Been off work for two days. Going to try and get out and go sledding with my kids this afternoon. We'll probably have to hike there.

New Jersey is getting freezing rain and sleet to top off the 2 feet of snow we already had last few weeks. It's awesome >:|

Well, this year there has been more snow in the southern Finland than in the north, so things are changing. Plenty of snow here too, but in the south they aren't used to it so there aren't enough places in the cities where to put it..

32" and still a few more hours of 2" per minute snowfall.

The picture with the tape measure is the middle of my driveway. It was shoveled bare last night. And now there's 36" after it stopped.

Wow.

here in the columbus ohio area we have had the past 2 days off from school(I am a public school teacher) due to ice and light snow. It really isn't that bad, but I ain't gonna argue with a couple days off with pay! My family all still lives in NJ and they told me on the phone last night how bad they are getting it. Walter

One solace: that giant RAT ( the Groundhog ) couldn't see his shadow !

Being an ex-pat from NOIL/SOWIS...I know the feeling. I done my time. Lived through the Bilandic Blizzard. My barn looked like that picture of your doorway. The only way that I got around was I had a 4-ton Caddy limo that was a tank. Even my full size pickup truck was immobile.

I'm in Milwaukee and was shoveling all morning! 'Cuz of drifting, my truck and van were completly under snow! I thought that I'd have a free day to practice as much as I wanted! Well I was wrong, and now I need a chiropractor! Plus the plows keep coming by and plowing our cars back in! The wind was so bad last night, it sounded like a train was going by all night long!

4". I wish.

@MP, that's just a mean spirited thing to say. :)
Though, I am going to build a Halfpipe in my front yard. So I'll be enjoying it. I'll post pictures when I do.

In the Philly/southeastern PA area thankfully not. We got hit with plenty of icy rain over the last 2 days and our roads were turned to sheets of ice but they were made manageable.

Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra maximums all between 96 - 108 F for days earlier this week.
North Queensland looks like it's Category 5 (that's Katrina size!) cyclone snuck between to major cities and nuked only a few small towns when it crossed the coast last night. Major flooding expected from the resultant rain depression.
Record breaking floods in Brisbane/South East Queensland and northern Victoria in January.
Its a wierd world weather-wise!
Cheers

@MP...yeah, Now that I have lived in Central Coast Cali for six years, I have to watch how I mention my location this time of the year with old friends back in frozen cheese country.

@Matzen... do you get to see Jimmy Liban at all ? I used to catch him about once a month. Steve Cohen also good, and Cadillac Pete Rahn is a super nice guy.
If you catch my keys bud Danny Moore at the Savoy, give him my regards.

85 here yesterday. Broke out in a sweat washing my truck. Similar today and I am grateful. Avacado & Keylime tree's are budding, the Oranges and Grapfruit are peaking and I am so glad I moved from the shit you are describing. I only wish I had done it 21 years ago when we married in the keys. Did I mention that I'm a real estate agent? Great deals in Fla. right now and I'm not kidding.

The record-setting snow and cold afflicting much of the nation in recent weeks doesn’t seem to jibe with Al Gore’s dire warnings about global warming. But Gore has an explanation for what’s causing the wintry conditions: global warming.

The former Vice President on Monday responded to Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly’s on-air question last week: “Why has southern New York turned into the tundra?” O’Reilly then said he needed to call Gore.

“I appreciate the question,” Gore wrote on his website.

“As it turns out, the scientific community has been addressing this particular question for some time now and they say that increased heavy snowfalls are completely consistent with what they have been predicting as a consequence of man-made global warming.

thanks, eharp, for posting some actual information. the science behind this is well understood, and there are many sites that explain it pretty well for anyone more interested in science than politics.

this one's not bad:

We got hit with 3 inches of rain ice .. then 3 inches of ice balls .. Then all the power lines whent down 2:30 AM Tuesday ... We dident get power up till 8:30 PM on Friday ... No Water from the well ...and only heat we had was the wood stove ...there wasent a Generator to buy for 100 miles round ...Bread was a luxury .. all the water in wallmart was wiped out the first day ... Oil lamps and stuff like that were also glamed up ....from folks that probably wont use them ...after we got power up on friday i had to Disconnect power to my well pump so it wont burn out from not being primed ..had to wait overnight for the heaters in the well house to thaw the pump and bladder out ...next day when i was going to hook the power up to the well pump .... It was snowing again like crazy .. we got another 6 inches on top of the sheet of ice 5 inches thick .. i must have fell on my butt 16 times in the last week ...Finaly yesterday i got the well pump running ... and all the pipes in the house thawed out ... while in a snow storm ... Taxes in Illinois went up 65% and now with all this weather ... Im selling the farm and running West or South ....and not looking back to Illinois ever again ... unless im on tour .. and that will be in the summer months ....Finaly got to take a shower yesterday ... Monday ill be back on the work bench trying to cacth up on my Harp Orders .... And to think i was in St John's Island just 10 days ago ... swimming in the ocean .. and listening to the Blues on the Beach Big stage on the beach with all the Crusers sitting in with Wane Baker Brooks .... missed the IBC"S ... because i had to keep the wood stove stoaked all week ...otherwize i would have all froze pipes in the house .... Where is that Groundhog? ... i hope he came out of his house and saw his shadow ... Juke Fest HCH ... here i come ....
