Where do you guys like to host audio? I'm trying to upload a couple of self recorded tunes so I can share them on the forum.

I was trying supload.com, but it doesn't seem to be working.

if you use dropbox, just make sure the files are in a public folder, otherwise the only people that will be able to stream the audio will be people with sharing permissions for the folder it's posted in.

The only problem I've found with Dropbox is that over time as I've used it more and more as a backup tool as well as a way to share files I've had problems keeping things organized. If you move something from one folder to another you break the link. If you don't move things to logical folders it gets messy. If you create duplicate copies (I know have a folder labeled- Don't Move Posted to the Internet- you chew up more space. I wish files got one file name that would always link to wherever in the public folder you move things. I've thought about adding a warning to the file name of anything I've posted, but since I sometimes move whole folders around I still might not see individual files within the folders.

Still, it's pretty handy. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be running out of space.

You can use youtube and just put a blank screen or a still picture for the video.

@ nc, how do you do that? Do you have to import the music into a video program, or is there a way to do it on youtube that I haven't seen? I got a Zoom H2 audio recorder for Christmas, and was wondering about how to do exactly what you mention.

I use soundclick.com. I have about 2,600 songs on it as of today and it works fine. It is free too. Walter

You are welcome and good luck ridge. You can post a link here that when you click on it, it goes right into playing the song. Walter

I like checking out Walter's songs on Soundclick. (Especially since there are like 15 new ones almost every day). The only downside I think is that you have to "join" to be able to download a song if the artist allows for downloads.

Regardless, being able to hear it right there on demand is pretty cool.

With the new Google / You Tube, terms of service agreement, I am not eager to post IP to You Tube as much, since once you do, they basically own the content and can do whatever they want with it (my interpretation). I know several artists who can no longer get to, or manage their old you tube videos uploaded under their old accounts. And they are just floating out there on internet autopilot.

Its quite a slog, but reading the current Google Terms of service agreement (which applies to You Tube), and privacy policy made me think twice about maintaining a channel there.

I like Soundcloud. It's free to set up but after reaching a few hours of play there is a minimal cost. I have had a Soundcloud a/c for nearly a year & with some 30 tracks and I still have heaps of time left. Soundcloud is, I think, better than either BoxNet or Drop Box both of which I have also used. Here is an example of Soundcloud:-

+1 for Soundcloud. I just set up my own account. It's really great so far! I like it a lot better the Reverbnation because reverbnation is more focused on band promotion than simply hosting audio. Soundcloud is all about hosting, sharing, collaborating, or even selling, audio. And it does that very very well.
