sometimes my tuner doesn't hear very well. especially on very low or very high notes. it's a korg OT-120

for x-mas, satan in his wisdom, bought me a contact mic rather than a mic mic. it actually is an accessory for this tuner.

it works like a clothes-pin and attaches to the bell of your horn or whatever.

i was tuning today outside and it was noisy. i clipped on the mic to the covers and VIOLA! it could hear perfectly!

i did an expirement by clipping it on the end of the harp with the covers off. it not only worked, but the pitch is identical to the pitch when the covers are on! (sometimes if you tune without the covers it goes flat when you put them back on).

further experimentation. got a cheapy korg CA-30 and tried all the above.

the cheapy works just as well!

anyway, if you want to upgrade your CA-30, this is not a bad idea. the mic is a korg CM-100L ----------

MP, What happens when you clip it to the cover plates and then plug it into your amp? I'm asking this because I've made my own contact mics (for amping a cigar box guitar, or a kazoo, or other fun stuff like that) out of piezoelectric discs (sometimes called "buzzers"). A while back, I experimented with amping harp using these homemade contact mics held against the coverplates. They worked, but it was cumbersome to hold them in place, and I think my fingers were damping the vibrations to the piezoelectric crystal a bit. I'm curious to see if this inexpensive ($10) clip mic would work for amped harp playing. It *may* be reasonably feedback resistant, and it *may* be a cool way to mic harp for a heavily effectified rig (to coin a new term). If you haven't plugged it into your amp yet, would you mind doing it for me?

Cheers,

Isaac

-isaac,
just as i suspected. too microphonic! it picks up far more than you need and everything you don't want. ie; unwanted noises.---------
