Though for just pure 2nd pos, a D sounds really nice too. But I don't play much 2nd pos anymore.

I play the most in Ab, Bb an D. Ab is great for chugging, Bb is still full sounding but easily bendable and expressive. My D and Bb harps are Buddha harps to they are extra fun to play. My favorite changes every day.

These days I only jam with one guy, a guitarist who uses a capo. So I'll move his capo for him so that I get to play my Bb in various positions.

-A,Bb,C,D,F,G, and Eb. i also like Ab,B,Db,E,and F#.
each harp has different strengths for different positions and obviously pitch is a factor.
i do carry A and C with me at all times. just like my keys and wallet. --------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

Bb-D-Low Low F, Low F, C, E, F In roughly that order. After that I don't have any real favorites.

The longer I play the more I like the higher harps. Couple years ago I would have said A or Bb, but now I really like playing a D harp in 2nd position.

Normally- Bb, C, and D. But today I was listening to something (can't remember what it was) in the key of C. I picked up my F GM and began jamming along. I couldn't believe how beautiful it sounded and how easy it played (that never used to be the case). It was magical and blended perfectly with the song and for a short time that F harp was my favorite harp. I'm going to mess with it more now. Has that ever happened to you?

Eb--I like the lively response and focused tone. Puts me in Bb for 2d position, G minor for 5th, C minor for 4th, F Dorian minor for 3rd, so it's a harp I use a lot.
Btw, I consider my instrument to be my performing set of 12 harps, not whatever harp I happen to be playing on a particular tune. It's like having 12 children--you don't love any one of them more than another even though each one is different.

Db and E.
Db (Ab 2nd position) has a really nice mood to it. Not sure why there isn't more blues in Ab.
E (B 2nd position) is nice because the key of B has more of a bite to it for rock and blues, yet can sound very bright and happy for some songs.

@nacoran...you play a Low Low F? I got one for chrismas, and find myself struggling with bending 2draw as far as on other harps...is it possible at all? ---------- Music is moonlight in the gloomy night of life. (Jean Paul)

C'mon guys? where are the puns?
F'n A. Sometimes people with hearing problems request the A harp. they keep saying 'A, A, A.' When I'm at the ocean, I play the C. When I'm in the club I pull out the g. G's in da house! I'll avoid the obvious one about the D. When you are at my orchard you gatta watch out for the B.
eh, eh?

I use every key harp and the C 4 octave chromatic, but generally prefer the low E and the low F, instead of the regular E and F.
Bb is a wonderful key...
but I think in C.

Dileto, I can bend it, but not as easily as other harps! It got easier as the harp got broken in.
The blow bends up on the high end work wonderfully though. In fact, it's the harp I learned blow bends on. I use it for a lot of chugging and it can actually make some pretty neat noises that really don't come out on other harps.
It's so airtight I can also play the top of the harp while blowing and drawing on the bottom, basically getting the 1 hole to sound at the same time as the 10. I can, when I've been working on it, using my thumb to block the 10 hole, get the 9 or 8 to sound. I've only played around with that, but it could do some interesting things.
Here is a tongue snap sound effect that I do use, sort of like you'd do to snap gum. The take isn't great; I was just trying to get the idea down. It's hard to play it quickly. (It's two tracks, the LLF and a regular C.) The wave file looks crazy. It's the only sound I've ever seen that bounces up above the mid line.
