Moderators: If you're not sure about an email address look it up on Stop Forum Spam:
http://www.stopforumspam.com/
It won't pick up everyone, but it sure helps.

That's a great hint, Bruce. I will check it out. This is my first rodeo, so to speak, so beyond the obvious(such as today's first rejection:WOWGold, email:aaa@gmail.com), it's difficult to judge merely from an email address or a dubious-sounding handle.

I don't know if this is feasible, but when I'm weary about replying to an email someone sent me (usually from selling something on Craigslist); I search for the email address on Facebook, Myspace, and Google. 9 times out of 10 if the email is legit it will be tied to an account on Facebook or Myspace. Google will bring up all sorts of stuff including anyone complaining about receiving spam from them. Might be a good practice, or possibly a prerequisite to verify being a real person.

Down boy. Heel. Yes, TP got the spam, I deleted the culprit from the members list, and now all you get is the congealed jelly stuff on the plate. MMMMMM!

I never actually saw the spam itself;but it was someone I approved yesterday. Gate closed now, moat filled with pirhanas, kettles with boiling oil on the ready.

Could you guys add another box on the registration page - something like "tell us a little about your interest in modern blues harmonica in 50 words or less" and use it to help with screening. A manager at work did something like this for a job position after getting tired of being spammed with irrelevant resumes. He didn't care if they cut and pasted something, but at least they had to read and respond with something relevant before he would bother opening the resume.

I don't know if that is possible, Keith, as the forum runs on some ready-made platform- but it is a good idea. Perhaps an email exchange could be requested first, and that can be worded on this page? That's an Adam call. One of us could do it if he approves.
