Gotta go Green Bullet just because it's easy to get a good sound.

Utimate 57 with the bulletizer, and Ultimate 58 by blowsmeaway.com, that's impossible to find better mics than these.

I am a relative new-comer to amps, I was a PA guy back in the 80's using an SM-57, it's way to clean for my new tongue blocking style. After a 20 year harp playing Hiatus as a lip purser, I now use a Green Bullet with a Black CR element. Second best, JT30 with 151 Crystal element. Both mics are from Ron Sunshine. All my other mics, (about 8 others) are just OK. Spend the extra money and buy mics from trusted dealers, like Ron, or Greg Heumann. BTW,Greg made my wonderful volume control for the JT30. One mic does not cover all situations, but invest in a least one good one from a reputable dealer. I know I left off some great dealers like Fritz, Jeffery Spoor, Fat Bottom, and more.

I find the Lumpophone is great, but don't use it that much as at open mics I normally just use what is there. Often it is an SM58 straight into the PA, but if they dial in some echo and get the EQ right a good sound can be had. The guy at one of the Open Mics gets it just right for me. ---------- "Come on Brackett let's get changed"

You can't say "Go green bullet" without some clarification.
There have been 3 green bullets, the 520, the 520D and the 520DX. The 520 used a single impedance controlled magnetic element. The 520D used a dual impedance controlled magnetic element. Both of these elements have metal diaphragms. The 520DX uses a dual impedance, mylar diaphragm dynamic element. With each generation the frequency response and headroom goes a little higher, and with the 520DX the shell got a lot bigger and heavier too. There were some models of green bullet in this series that used CR's way back when, and low impedance CM's, but they are much more rare.
Although they are ALL serviceable mics, my preference goes to the single impedance CM (or CR) elements - less harsh, better breakup.
Install a good CR in a BlowsMeAway wood shell with a personalized grill and you have the best sounding, most beautiful and most comfortable mic in the world - and that's what I play through. Of course, I have an in with the guy who makes them.

Mine is SM57, I still dream about ultimate. I also want to check some other mics like Electrovoice RE-20, but it's discontinued and I dislike the idea of buying used mic from ebay. I'm looking for such a great bass as 57 plus some more clear mids, 57 is still a bit muddy. ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.

My favourites are my Stromberg Carlson badged EV630, and a JT30 shell with a 1963 Controlled Magnetic element. The EV630 is great, cleaner than the CM but nearly as hot, and with better feedback resistance. It's my go-to mic for most circumstances, but I need to order one of Greg's superb volume controls to go with it as it only has an on/off switch

For most of what I play, I'm pleased with my EV631B. Clarity of notes is there when clean, and I can tight-cup it and get nice and dirty with it. A slight bit more bottom-end than an RE10, and smaller. My hands never get tired from holding it. I too need one of Greg's in-line volume controls, as my mic has only the magnetic off/on switch. ----------

EV mics in general are terrific for harp. I'm partial to the EV RE 15. But my absolute favorite mic these days is the Shure 545 Ultimate i got from Greg. Love it. And it's probably the most versatile harp mic I've ever used.
These days it's the only mic i carry. Sounds great into an amp, or into a PA, and with or without pedalboard electronics. Nice full bodied sound and the tone can be clean or dirty depending on breath and mic handling technique.

I have a Rod Piazza custom JT30 w/Shure CM99A86 element that is the workhorse, but I also have a Shure 440 custom with Shure 99B86 element that is really loud and nasty. A Shure 707 with a Shure CR99H86 black label element that is a little smoother but still sounds big and a Turner Challenger with a Brush crystal element that sounds great with a number of amps. I have 2 Turner 500 stick mics (crystal) that sound great on a stand and who knows what on the shelf as future projects. If I want to play clean acoustic, my vintage Shure 55 is hard to beat.

EV RE18. Basically an RE15 but with some shock support and a bulbous windscreen smaller than the RE16. Very comfortable to hold and very nice range.
@boris_plotnikov, hey Boris, they still make the RE20. That would be a pretty big mic to jam with though.

My one and only...hmmm. Aside from the fact it is smarter to have/take two, to any gig, just incase. My primary mic would be the 920 with black cr. Secondary would be the 200 chop with white CR. 'Steady' all the way..baby. As close to a crystal as I can find. The difference in tone is unappreciated by the masses, eh? Purely a personal favorite. The crystals are too fragile to take out, anyway. Why risk it? Sadly, it defeats the purpose Best for when I'm able to play at home. The crystal I do have are very old. And they are as close to nervana as I have ever found...a 151 and a Brush. Both in Biscuits. I have too much difficulty finding a gasket for the Brush crystal to fit in the 920 grill. They are slightly larger in diameter than a 151 or any other crystal. So...the Biscuit will suffice. I tried a 1 meg pot for the crystal, too. But it hasn't impressed me either way. Straight through the circuit is best for such a crazy good element... I'll miss them when they die. fyi Never got into Dynamics like the 545, or similar makes. I can dig the tone of the dynamic very much. It's always been about ergonomics, with the stick mics, for me. They require a slightly tighter grip, than I'm used to with the 920, or 200, shells. Not enough girth to settle into my cup, perhaps. And the length of the 'tail' is cumbersome at best. The thought of converting to a wireless set up, with either of my favorites, is very attractive. I may go that route soon. I don't gig out much, to justify the expense yet. thanks for asking.

I started with an EV623 from a yard sale and have progressed to an Astatic 200 w/ ceramic element that I bought from Ronnie Shellist. I just got an EV638 that I am looking forward to playing with.

I go through different phases.
My current fave is a a JT30 I picked up over 20 yrs.s ago with an element marked WC127 - ceramic I gather. I'm loving the 'bite' it's got into my tube amps - and even direct into my Logic DAW amp sim.s.
Before that it was a stock 520DX green bullet - 7 or so years old. I'd trade that off with a sure PE548V body (with volume control) with an sm57 capsule I had instaled inside - depending on the amp and harp I was using.
I played out a bunch of years with a country / country rock band and used an sm58 inot a solid state amp most of the time.
I've lately been trying out an EV RE10 with a Blows me Away volume adapter. It feels nice and comfy for the less abusive genltler breath control playing I've been working on - but it's not gonna replace the JT30 as my go-to. ----------
