Hello All, I am new to this forum, but I have followed it for a year or so. Just wanted to say hello. I live outside Knoxville TN; I’m a firefighter for the city of Oakridge tn. I’ve been married for 14yrs and have two children a boy 7, and a girl 4. I have been playing harp for a little over a year and LOVE IT. Mostly I have learned from YouTube vids, Adam’s are awesome, and I have also bought a few of his lessons. Based on his scale I’m in the intermediate range. There seems to be a lot of very talented people on this forum and I am glad I found it. Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself to you all … btw does anyone know of any instructors in my area I would love some one on one instruction, I plan on attending Adams HCH and look forward to putting faces with names……… Happy holidays ……….. You know Matt, as I read your self ranking as an intermediate after a year of playing I was thinkin' well...okay...and went back and actually re-read the "what level are you page" and ya...intermediate is do-able but thanks for making me do that. It was a timely reminder of what I need to work on as a player (and what this forum should be focused on).
I might just pull a bunch of the points into a New Year's resolution list (ya I know...it's wayyy to early for that. :)

ps. don't you just hate it when you type the captcha code into your message by mistake!

Be careful not to mention anything about astrology on MBH or you may get banned. Just a friendly warning.

Right - no mention of religion, race, karma etc. etc.

But, a fun topic around here is "what is a good, cheap harp?"

Anyways, we need some more chatter from us Gussow Scale Intermediates!

Matt, welcome to the mad house. I propose you are put in charge of dampening down any fires (hot threads) before thay get out of hand. We could have got benefit from suitable soothing words over the last couple of days! (Matt - don't say 'my hose is bigger than your hose' - on this forum it will always offend someone!)

welcome, firehouse.
since no one answered your question about an instructor, let me get the ball rolling.
do not tie yourself down to an instructor in your area.
many very good teachers offer lessons over the phone or with the use of skype.
prices vary from $90 to $20 per hour. dont feel that if you go with one instructor that you have to keep with that one.
i have taken lessons, thru skype, from a former student and mob member of filisko's. he has taught at gindick's jam camps. if you want, i can get you his email.

enjoy your journey here.

a couple more things.
for instructors, you might find a link on the side of this page.
tookatooka will probably have a link in his signature. (you can probably track him down on another thread if he doesnt welcome you shortly.)

Well, I haven’t even considered that before. But that does sound like an awesome idea. I would like to try it, I have looked at attending jam camp, but the cost is a little steep as I don’t know how much of it I would be able to retain, still not out of the question though. If there is an instructor you can recommend please do get that email address for me that would be great. Thank you for your helpful idea on this eharp. My email is m-freshour@live.com
