Did I miss something? Has Chris been put in the corn field. Astrology is a religion? Do I need to call the ACLU. LOL
I guess my days are numbered to. I guess its freedom of religion and freedom from religion.
This list has lost a lot of cred.

@Diggs: Drivel is okay. Astrology will get you excommunicated. Go figure.....(and if you do so successfully, let me know).
It's not like anyone has established a monopoly on being rude around here...or manipulative for that matter. There's certainly been enough of that to go around. But, you'd better be careful not to combine it with astrology.
After all, Adam is like the Pope around here. The difference is if he was REALLY the Pope, we'd only have to kiss his ring....

I guess this would be a bad time to ask for a little "astrology corner" on this website, I enjoyed my horoscope...for entertainment purposes only.
I'll miss Chris' presence here, and I disagree with the sentiment that he drives people away, they drive themselves away and I guarantee you still lurk to see if anyone misses them.
Chris' posts generally provided a delightful break from comparing harps and mic elements...
Rules are great for protecting peoples sensitivities I guess, but hopefully we won't whitewash this down to a homogeneous slurry of boring...
My 2 cents, love to all

...ahhh ah ah, ba budda buddha buddha....that's all FOLKS!
He truly was a cantankerous SOB, who was defensive, opinionated, fair, informative, colorful....hmmm.
A cry for help, maybe?
We must suffer the fool...ish!
We are all children of corn.
He also got more breaks, than most...from what I have observed...how about a slap on the wrist?
The last straw, eh? Ok Ok Ok...
Like I always say...if you don't like it, don't watch it.
If you aren't interested in anything Buddha talks about, move on.
He is, in most cases, worth checkin out, though.
But there always is someone to push peoples buttons. It's almost entertaining.... ..try simply ignoring them.
Buddha is guilty for inflaming the antagonists.

I'll admit, I don't like Buddha. Why? He comes across as arrogant, and self righteous.
In the real world, he is probably a good guy, but having never met him, I can only go on what I read here.
I'm glad he has been banned as I perceived a clique in which he could do anything, whilst others were banished.
Well done Adam.
However, I'd like to see a new, improved, humble Buddha return, one who is gentle to blues players and beginners alike. One who will share the hidden, inner secrets of harmonica customisation, and of the overblow.
So farewell Buddha. I'll miss shouting at my computer screen, typing obscenities, and then deleting them, listening to your videos and trying to like the sound of overblows, having discussions with friends, and ranting about your posts.
What to do now, without my nemesis ?................Practise more!!

FYI - I totally respect Chris as a musician and a "maker of dreams" (as in custom harps) even if I don't agree with some of his other ideas. But we could probably debate these things calmly without resorting to name calling or bite suits. I thought that some of the recent threads were thought provoking in their better moments.
Also the internet is sort of strange. You've probably heard that at its best it gets everyone together. But it also separates. And MBH seems to struggle a bit with this. In general you'll find all sorts of subcultures. For example there are places to discuss old time banjo. If you mention bluegrass they get bent out of shape. Jazz - get the hell outta here. Old time fiddle - try the other board. Or this one is for old-time banjos only - we don't do chords. Sounds kind of strange, but it's true. Yet if you don't have some sort of segregation then it's hard to form a community. Whoever figures out an optimal strategy for this sort of thing will be rich, and will have have an actor playing them in a move. Move over Mark Z.

I just got a message from George Brooks saying that Chris has died after a short illness... I am utterly shocked!!!
I find it hard to take in, but George says he was called by Chris' wife Laurie, so it must be true, horrible as that is to contemplate.
You had to know Chris personally to appreciate him. His posts here were pretty extreme at times I agree, but he's the epitome of that saying "His bark is worse than his bite". Chris had a heart of gold, and was incredibly generous to me and lots of other people. The 2000 Harmonica Summit he organised single-handedly was a landmark event in the harmonica world; that's the first time I got to know him, as he put me up in his house.
Subsequently I met his wonderful parents, American Dad and Vietmamese Mum, who met when his Dad was in the Vietnam war. Wonderful people; his Mum worked as a surgical nurse and gave me some exquisite small scissors and tweezers that are still in my harp tool kit today.
After the recent SPAH in August Chris invited Buckwheat, TJ Klay and me again back to his parents' place in Minneapolis/St Paul, and we had a brilliant afternoon playing, joking and firing his Dad's home-made pipe gun.
That afternoon I tried the sample Buddha Marine Band that he was showing people at SPAH, and it was absolutely incredible! Among the 2-3 most responsive custom diatonics I have ever tried.
Sure he talked himself up, but he certainly walked the walk as a customiser as well as a player, big time. His playing, especially the gorgeous 12th position sound he got, was very influential, especially through his generous YouTube teaching videos. He was a great mentor to many of the best young players around today, as I'm sure they will attest.
Personally I liked Chris's strong opinions on everything. They always made sparks fly, never boring! It's a pity that many of those offended by strong posts online never got to know him in person, or they would have seen through the bluster.
Chris was one of the great characters of the US harmonica scene, and he will leave a big hole.
There is lots more to say and I know many others will feel the way I do. RIP Buddha, and keep tootin' wherever you are!

How utterly terrible. What awful news.
I had the privelage to have Skype chats with Chris and he was a very unique and special person. He was always kind and generous - thoughtful and true.
This is the first forum i've been on and so although i've had plenty of losses in my life i've never lost a 'virtual, E friend'.... Damn, i'm really knocked by the news.
Thank you Brendan for conveying the news in a sensitive and positive way.
To Chris - thanks for your passion for life - you will be missed and not forgotten.

This I can say about Chris: he was always willing and ready to share. He was an incredible source of information, had plenty of great stories, and you never had to ask him for his opinion. He, in this environment at least, was an "acquired taste", and once I accepted him for what he was, I really enjoyed reading what he had to add. There was many a thread I grew bored with, but continued to scroll through and seek out the contributions of a select few, him being at the very top of that list. Never did I want to miss what he had to add, even when I disagreed...
Rest in Peace, Chris, and may your family and friends also find peace in the fact you made a true difference to many. I truly hope this latest news is only a bit of misinformation. When you were banned, it was a loss to this little community. If what Brendan wrote is true, then that's a much greater loss to many more.

Brendan, I very much hope that's what they call 'british humor'....
To Buddha being booted of the forum.
While it may be entertaining to watch,.. a guy like buddha is a nightmare for moderators and administrators. The analogy of eharp is spot on.
The argument, that 'most people that posted agreed with buddha' may be true, but flawed. Most people that don't agree with his ways (and consequently, what the forum turned to) simply stopped posting.
Some do so high-profile... most simply go.
And when some people dared to stand up to buddha the most common response was 'STFU'.
Now the question is,... do we want a culture of 'STFU' or a culture where everyone is welcome. You can't have both.

Regards Buddah being 'dead', one day after being kicked off the forum? Anyone else thinking we may experience a case of reincarnation sometime soon?

Here is the message I received from George Brooks. He's not the kind to joke about this stuff:
"It is with immense sadness that I pass on the news that Chris Michalek died on Thursday. I do not have details. I knew he had been sick with what he assumed was a bad cold, but he was beginning to feel better when we spoke a few days ago. His wife Laurie called me early Friday morning with the news.
Chris's talent was huge, both as a player and as a teacher. There was and is no one like him. My condolences go out to Laurie and the rest of his family as well as his many friends."
Maybe a case of STFU to anyone still skeptical?....

I had my ups and downs w/Chris, although, at the end, we had mended the bridges.
Have noticed during my lifetime, however, that those that create negative vibes with their interaction with the world (whether it be serious or some kind of "put on") seem to have nature take its course in removing the bad vibe source....karma.
Can not argue against the fact that Chris was full of talent. Just wish he had learned a more gentle approach at making his way in this earthly plane. ---------- The Iceman

I just wonder if his tips and tricks for harmonica customization ever made it into the lore of the current crop of customizers? He spent a huge amount of time and energy on this, was a very smart guy, it would be a shame if his knowledge was lost for good. I know a few guys too, lessons from him, have they ever passed his ideas on? Did Chris ever share with Joe or any of the other current top level harp customizers?
I play my C Buddha harp almost every day.. never know if I should save it or use use, but decided to use it. His harps gently led me into overblowing.
