There is still another week for members to vote on the BYBO thread, so if you haven't yet, I'm sure the participants would value your input and wise words of wisdom.
I thought I'd start a "Drains Up" thread to get some feedback. We used to have a "Drains Up" session in the telecomms industry after a big design project. We would lift the drains to find out what got stuck and where any improvements could be made for the next time round.
So, if anyone has any ideas on how to improve our BYBO projects or experienced any problems, list them out here. Just bare in mind it can't get too complicated, because with so many personalities and time zones involved, it can get out of control.
Personally, I feel it went quite well, everything worked smoothly my end and there wasn't really a great deal to do. Once the site was set up and everyone took notice of the instructions to enter we were home and dry.
A few new faces have made their mark in the forum and broadened the range of harp playing that we get to hear. One player said it was his first ever video and would be sure to do many more now he has broken through the technology barrier. There must be many out there who we don't get to hear because of that.
I've been monitoring YouTube and many of the videos have had a lot of traffic which is good. I wonder if the next BYBO could be promoted on YT next time to get an even larger audience and participant group. Just a thought.
Anyway, make any comments on what was good and bad and also if anyone has any ideas (or would care to volunteer) how we're going to work out who gets the kudos for BYBO2, please let us know.
Tookatooka.

"...who get's the kudos for BYBO".." ... that's obviously you. Or do I understand this paragraph wrongly?
I very much like the idea of promoting BYBO on youtube. It's a great way of attracting new members to the forum too.
Otherwise... kudo's to you! All went well, what a great contest! Very smooth. IMO best MBH contest yet... There's more to come, but I'll always take this one as a reference on how to do it smoothly. I very much liked your banners too!

No! No! No! please. Don't embarass me. That wasn't what I was asking. I meant how are we going to work out this years winner (who gets the kudos for winning).
There really wasn't a great deal to do at my end once I set it up. ----------

TOOKA, TOOKA, TOOKA,... hahaha. You got the crowd all worked up... (It's the good looks... :)
Now, seriously... hmmm. Instead of saying what we could do better,.. I'll try to say what I liked about this, compared to the previous ones.
- It was all in the hands of one person, i.e. no discussion about the rules,... etc. This we should do in the future too. It just makes it easier, because there really is no compromise that can be found..., which makes most discussion futile.
- The banners were very smart. I'm sure many people found their way through that. And all you had to say was,... have a look at my banner.
- A dedicated website... with the rules. (Maybe some kind of voting system. Hmmm gotte look into that.)
- "Who Blue Their Brains Out best?" Blue?? hahaha. Awesome!

I think getting people to post the link to the VIDEO and NOT to their CHANNEL would help. Even if the video set to play as the channel opens, it would make sure we would have no mistakes, and would be available on all viewing devices.

@KingoBad. Can you elucidate? The links I provided were to the videos concerned which were on the entrants channels. I don't quite understand what you mean when you say mistakes. I'm not aware of anyone seeing the wrong videos.
I can't list all the actual videos on one page because it causes too many bandwidth problems. ----------

Sorry Tooka,
Mistakes was a poorly chosen word. My post is for selfish reasons I suppose. I like to view the videos from my iPhone. I, for some reason, cannot view a video if it is the starting video in a channel. If it is a link directly to the video and not the channel, then I have no problem. I had no problems whatsoever with my pc. There were just several videos I had to wait until I got to a pc to view. There would be no way of anyone knowing unless you or they were checking the vids from their iphone. I think there would be no issue if the addresses that were sent to you were from the actual video and not their channel. Every thing went very well, I was just trying to be constructive.
Thanks

I've been thinking about this thread since you posted it, and I still am not sure I can think of much to improve it. It seems to have run smoothly; maybe an auto-voting feature, but actually that might reduce the number of thoughtful comments. I don't remember how many entries the other runs had. How did we do on the total number of entries compared to the other times?
There are other things we might do differently, but I'm not sure any of them would be an improvement. Maybe we could have had judging categories, like best cover, best original, best overall harp, best overall musical performance, most improved or whatever, but really that might just be a way to get even more critiques out of people.
Good show Tooka!

I don't think we can improve on this one really. I thought it went as well as anyone could have hoped for.
