Different states have different enforcement agencies for animal protection. Some of them are actual deputized officers. Other groups are private. They can't arrest people but they can take pictures and tell turn them over to the police, or tell you if you don't sign over your abused animal they will turn you in. I think Animal Planet has 2-3 shows. One is set in Houston, another in Detroit. Then one station has a group of little people who rescue animals. I think there is another show with a group of really big bikers. The market is kind of saturated. I don't mind watching heroic animal rescues (the cat that fell on the cactus) but I get too angry watching the ones where people are the reason the animal is in trouble in the first place.

I can't stand animal abusers, especially people who feel it's their "duty" to mistreat cats. I don't know why cats get the short end of the stick when it comes to being mistreated, it's like people think they're just put on this Earth to be cruel to or something. I've taken in two strays so far and I'm in the process of taking in a 3rd(getting my wife warmed up to the idea), she'll go in to be spay on Nov 16 and get her rabies shot. For some reason people in the South seem to be especially mean to animals, not sure why that is but there's a lot of arrests for mistreatment down here.

As a historical side note, the Pilgrims were crazy sex perverts.

I took a literature/history course where we had to read a lot of early sermons and laws from Massachusetts and the surrounding areas. Despite the small population they had very well defined laws concerning bestiality. They even had rules for the animals. Animals caught trying to get friendly on Sundays where to be whipped until they stopped. Animals that were the victims of advances from the local gentlemen (with so few women coming over at first and perhaps because of all the problems with same species copulation in a world where unwed pregnancy and birth control were taboo subjects this seems to have been quite common.) Not only did they kill the animal if you were caught, but the animals had to be buried so that no one would be tempted to salvage any meat from the perverted beast that had tempted the gentleman.

The practice of bundling, particularly while British troops were being housed in Colonial houses, has been sited as one of the underlying causes of the Revolution (and the 3rd Amendment!)

My wife volunteers for/runs an animal rescue and if you gave her the power to bust people, she'd be patrolling the streets like a superhero.

I love animals, but their owners are usually.... Meh...

I'm all for making people accountable for their actions. I see nothing wrong with getting tough on people who mistreat animals.
