Manji Harps are great. Are these harps he has used? If so dont get them though the folkmasters are inferior to the Manji you dont know what he has done to them. I would find out more info first. The question to ask yourself is will I ever play the folkMasters? If the answer is no then take the risk. In the end you must have a gut feeling about this. I would go with that. ---------- Oxharp
Just learn to play music on ANY make/model harp. A good player should be able to make good music on any of them. I have multiple makes and models and can play all the notes on any of them. Just get a set of 12 of whatever sounds right to you (over the course of whatever time period feels right to you or you run into a situation where you realize dang you coulda used that key!!) and learn as you go by experimentation. Some things will better suit YOU and only you can discover what those are. If everyone posted here every time they thought about getting a new harmonica this place would be flooded with boring gear threads that do nothing for playing music, lol. Just sayin'...
Onto the topic...
This deal smells bad. Why is he wanting to be rid of his Manji harps?? What did he do to them? Are you sure he didn't try some experimental tuning on them? Or let his puppy use them for chew toys?
As per my opinion of Manji harps, they kick ass. But I'm sure the Folkmasters are plenty fine and you know they are in good shape. I say stick with what you got and practice a lot & if down the line one of your harps needs replacement or you feel like blowing some cash that's weighing you down order a Manji.

to tell you the truth, it's hard for me to give you any advice. Because I have about 100 harmonicas, and one more-one less really does not make any difference. And brands/models play no important role for me unless it's not a 1847.
As for the folkmasters, I gave one of those to a bum that lives in an abandoned building the street below. I really think that's the best use for them ;) ---------- www.truechromatic.com
I'd echo most - or all - of what RyanMortos said near the top.
I know I'm gonna get it in the teeth for saying this, but I'm baffled by all the hooha over whatever the latest harp is. And, I've been guilty of it myself in the past.
The truth is that if you've got a set of harps of reasonable quality, the rest is down to you. Sure, some will OB OOTB, but doing a little gapping is no big deal.
As for the deal, the old adage is a good one: if it sounds too good to be true...
I'm wary of any transaction that doesn't add up. Why can't this fella get a few cheapo Suzukis locally? If the transaction is a virtual one then I'm ten times more wary.
Stick with the harps you already have. If you're as brassick (English slang: brassick lint = skint) as you've said you are then you won't be able to afford to maintain a set of Manjis, should that model become your harp of choice.
Right now, I could afford a set of 1847s, but I stick with Special 20s, partly because I expect to be broke again some day. ---------- YouTube SlimHarpMick
Tolga, I'm pretty sure there is no thread on the relative value of Manji's to jerky!
I think tooka raises a good question about shipping foodstuffs internationally, especially since jerky is technically uncooked. I think it would depend a lot where you met this guy. If he's someone with an established identity, like a long time member on a forum, it might be a good deal. If a guy can trade a Red Paper Clip all the way up to a house and you are starting with 3 harps and some jerky, the sky is the limit!
Tolga has a (small) point tho.. when I read the title for this thread, I thought it was another one of those "What do you think of Manji harps" thread.... Maybe something like "Advice on Trading Harps " or Trading Manji for Beef Jerky" would have been better.... just a thought.....
PS the jerky deal smells fishy to me.... ---------- DutchBones Tube

Lmfao Greyowlphotoart i like the pic,(the delima) well lets see 2 manjis for a bag a beef jerkey and 2 folkmaster um,well Watson let me get my pipe out and contenplate this, well that sure sounds like a good deal,$90 worth of harps for 30$ of harps, and a bag of jerkey, hell i got some of that curing out back in the shed from that road kill deer i got last week,Hum, well it would take weeks for the tranaction to go though and I could get burned,But on the other hand it would be a good deal if they werent bad harps but hell at that price i could just order new reed plates and re do em,except that takes extra money to fix them where i could play the new folkmasters and learn oh susanha, cause you aint a freakin harp player untill you CAN play that song with what ever harp you have;-)But then again well i know 1 thing i sure of hell would make up my mind without starting a post about it,as to whether ot not, just play em or trade em,cause i dought you can sell slightly used folkmasters for much anyways.ive wore 7 harps out my 1st year, give em a chance, play em till theY no longer breath, then upgrade if you can if not buy them again play em till you suck a reed down your throat start over.or trade i dont really care either way,but like my mama said if its sounds to good to be true,But then again it could be a good deal, you have to ask yourself why would he want that deal,is jerkey a commodity over there? i dont know things that make you go hum.anyways go with your gut cause thats all you can trust in this harp stealing beef jerkey trading world, where there out to get you,or maybe not LMFAO its a crazy world with beef jerkin addicts.A bag of beef jerkey thats to funny ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

Why would someone trade good/expensive harmonicas for cheap/crap? And beef jerky?
Beef Jerky?
Really?
What is overseas shipping going to cost?
What is beef jerky going to cost?
Instead of starting this thread, had you ordered a Manji from Rockin' Ron wouldn't you have it by now?
Where did you "meet" this jerky loving Norwegian?
Jerky?
Really?
And you are really spending time considering this?
LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Oh, and as for my opinion on the Manji, It's s great harp, I have one in Bb. Not my favorite because is buzzes a bit more than my Honers and that tickles my lip sometimes. But many people love them.

Don't rush into this Frank my friend, Beef Jerky trading at 1318 dollars per ounce on the market in Norway!! Hold out for more Manji's :)
@Stickman Same here, Bb Manji with buzzing reed. Had to gap it also, as it was not great OOTB. But a nice, bright, loud harp nontheless, but not my favourite.
btw Tookatooka had this advice on another thread:-
'My low F draw 1 buzzed badly. I opened the gap a little and it was cured. IMO if the gap is too tight on the low draw notes it can cause the reed to swing too wildly.'
FWIW Just messin around here with the Manji. It has a very loud, kind of raucous tone. I have added some delay btw.
it all depends on the jerky if he wants beef jerkey then its a deal hell give a big bag,but if he wants Deer jerkey thats big Bucks:-)I would only go a dime sack of that ambrosia.

I have 5 Manji's. I like them better than my Special 20's or my Golden melodies. Sound closest to my custome MB's. Minimal if any work required OOTB. The resonance of the harp, especially when playing chords is very close to the sound from my customs. They are way better harps than the 3 Harpmasters I have.
Frank, Norway has the same import legislation on meat as the EU (European Union) it is banned, unless you go through commercial import licence protocol.
However if the chance to get this Manji is un- missable then I list below the permitted:
Allowed animal products
Bread, cakes, biscuits, chocolate and confectionery (including sweets) not mixed or filled with meat or dairy products Food supplements packaged for the final consumer (i.e. not in bulk quantities and not for re-sale) Meat extracts and meat concentrates Olives stuffed with fish Pasta and noodles not mixed or filled with meat or dairy products Soup stocks and flavourings packaged for the final consumer not containing meat pieces Any other food product not containing any fresh or processed meat or dairy and with less than 50% of processed
N.B. You will have to make sure that your Manji seller is the final consumer of your chosen imported item.
to tell you the truth TNFrank,I wouldnt know what to do in your situation thats such a weird trade it would throw me,its kinda to intising,Im wonering is beef jerkey hard to get there, whats the deal with beef jerkey, its kind of funny though.
