I was just reading an old thread someone has resurrected about Epiphone valve juniors and saw Jon Sparrows name there.
Jon...what have you and your hairy ass been up to?. The place isn't the same without you man.

I was wondering the same thing. I just noticed he'd defriended me on Facebook. :( I was going to tease him that I was finally catching up to his post total.

Well I'll be damned. I know I commented to him via facebook within the last 2 weeks.
Don't fret though Nate. I don't see his account on facebook at all. Perhaps he dropped his account.
Last I talked to him he didn't seem so interested in harmonica & just had a buncha bum stuff going on. Maybe I should send him a text or give him a call.

His last few FB posts were very "apocalyptic" and I remember the last thing I read on his status was something about how you can't trust anyone.

Well wherever you are Jon I hope you're well and know you have some friends here on MBH. It would be great to have you posting back on here as you made the forum a much more interesting place. ---------- Oisin

I sent Jon an e-mail on myspace and I'll report back if he replies. Reading back over some old threads from last year I forgot some of the fun banter we all used to have. ---------- Oisin

I talk to Preston off forums sometimes. He pops on to read from time to time. I don't post 3/4s as much as I used to either. Once in a while there are still good threads & discussions but I think there used to be many more. Perhaps we did talk about nearly everything.
Edit: I sent Jon a text to let him know you guys were asking about him.

Yeah! When I first joined the forum sometime in 2007, there were a whole host of people who were all approximately at about the same level. We were all eager to learn and the threads were exciting and there was something to learn in each one.
Seems that newbies only come along every now and again for some reason. I hope they are not lurking and deciding to give the forum a miss because it sounds elitist.
Maybe the harp is taking a back seat again and will resurface again in 40 years time? There are so many distractions out there now. Blooming computers.

I've talked to Preston a couple times via e-mail. Seems to be less interested in harmonica of late, and more into fishing. Good guy who added a lot to the forum. ----------

tookatooka- that is the nature of forums. tight groups get made. many newbies to the forum can easily be intimidated by the relationships that are formed.(anybody transfer to a new school during the middle years?)
if folks were truly concerned with newbies and growing the forum, and most usually arent because they have their place in the inner sanctum, there would be more reaching out.
i notice harmoniclub.com began a new section in their forum for newbies to introduce themselves. it is then up to the regulars to welcome them.
maybe newbies to forums need to have a sponsor assigned to them to get them into the mix.
the angry bickering doesnt help keep newbies around, either, imo

i forgot something. on another forum, we have tried to share email addresses with each other. some of us have informed wives to contact these folks in case of emergency: serious injury, death, winning the lottery and moving to an island... if somebody goes missing, it may be they need a friendly hand. with many sending emails, somebody, eventually gets thru.

eharp, lot's of us share emails or Facebook pages. I'm friends with probably a dozen other harpers and in a pinch I bet I could use Facebook to sort of "phone tree" to a good portion of the members. You can put that info in your profile you know!
We do have newbie pages, the problem is they aren't always near the top. I try to make it a point to say welcome aboard to anyone I see starting out, and I've been trying to categorize all sorts of stuff in my Thread Organizer to make it easier. I've even tried to recruit harp players I've seen on YouTube. ---------- Nate Facebook Thread Organizer
