I am a Bengali, and I am a harmonica player. Why have I never heard of this before! And why didn't I know that Ompah music was so popular in Bangladesh? Man, I need to go back there... I bet I could snag me a record deal in about one hot minute!

By the way, when you search YouTube for "bengali harmonica", I come up first! So take THAT "jubin1189", if that IS indeed your REAL name (which I highly doubt)!

That sounds more polka than Umpah to me, but I'm no expert. But then again, the only 'umpah' I know isn't authentic, but don't tell Oliver.

I just love this music. I don't know what it is but it just seems to quench my musical appetite in a way that the blues never can.

I'll just finish the Sonny Terry Masterclass and I'll be onto this straight way.

God I need a Lidl curry!

If you dig that, check this. I use to hang with these guys down in Texas. All musics melted together there. I use to jam with esteban jordan who has been called the jimmi hendrix of the accordian. Besides the black juke joint clubs, the all mexican clubs were my best gigs. They didn't understand what I was singing but they dug the groove. I am suprised none of you modern players have attacked this music with a harp replacing the accordian. They are as sharp a dressers as the bluesmen too! Walter

Got to figure out a way to connect some bellows to my diatonic. Thanks Walter.

OK, There's something strangely appealing to this stuff.
Kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. It feels best when it stops.

There are some polkas for diatonic in the Charlie McCoy teaching materials. You might wannsa see if you
can play them before you make fun of them. LOL

"Sheiky bastard."

Is that a racist term? It really sounds like a racist term to me. I don't like that. Not one bit. I don't like this at all.

Isaac, no it isn't. It has nothing to do with race and I am not a racist! His name is Sheik, he is a lying piece of shit, and has earned the name of Sheiky. A piece of shit knows no color or heritage. So, don't take my comments out of context my friend. This family has caused me a whole lotta greif and this thread brought it to the forefront, that's all.

I think it was supposed to be a play on the rhyme with cheeky, but yeah, Lil Ripper, if that was humor I think you missed the mark.

edit: I think the problem is that his name happens to also be a word. That word, although not pejorative when used accurately, also tends to be used in broad stereotypes.

Your personal experience with someone off this board has nothing to do with anything here, and you should never have even bothered to post anything about it. The very fact that the topic of this thread being about Bangladshis sends you off on a tirade against another totally unrelated Bangladeshi has the stench of racism about it, regardless of what you say. Having been at the other end of comments such as yours, I will not now nor will I ever tolerate even the slightest hint of racism. Period. I will also no longer discuss this issue on the board. I have alerted Adam and the moderators, and will defer to them for any action that needs to happen.

@Lip Ripper: I've deleted all your posts in this thread but one, and that post, above, plainly violates the board creed. Taken together, your several posts violate the board creed flagrantly. Since you caught yourself and apologized, at least somewhat, I won't boot you off the forum--even though I may take heat for playing favorites because of my leniency.

Please cool it. I'm locking this thread.
