Here's a vid I made that might give you a few hints:

In this video I show a Conrad "Stereophonic" all-tube reel-to-reel tape recorder that I modified into a bitchin amp! From wht I could discover on the net, the unit is vintage 1950's or early 60's. I simply removed all the mechanical parts, motor, etc that had to do with the tap drive, re-wired the input jacks to connect to where the tape heads were originally wired, and presto! It was an amp! It's got a built in 3x6 speaker.

This video is over two years old, so don't judge me by my playing abilities as seen in this vid. I play WAY differently now (hopefully much better!).

I've done the same thing with a valve record player extension amp. Just changed the RCA input to a 1/4" jack input and away you go. I have 4 of these little amps and they all sound great. I have used 2 of them at my local jam and had excellent results.
The ones I have had conical speakers which I think give a lovely sound.

If the recod player you have has an input then this could be used to attach then jck input to. If not then trace the wires from the needle arm and wire these to a jack which you can fit by drilling a small hole at the back or side of the body. You could do what Issac says and remove all the machanism from the player but it isn't necessary.

Bring it to a jam and see the attention it gets.!!
