Good question. The car for me. But not true 'practice'
The only time I really have to practice is late at night (like 1:00AM) so I am thinking of clearing a spot in the garage. Then doing a sound check to see if anyone upstairs can hear me. (no amp)

like Buddha, I don't practice but I play alot. I have always been this way. I never have tried to learn a riff, technique. they just come via the hours spent playing. I have taken Adam's idea to ...'Learn Something New Everyday' to heart. I try to learn a new lick everyday. Either a phrase or idea plucked from my head, from a pop song or from a squeaky escalator..... So, I play every day even if only for 5 minutes... but DO PLAY EVERYDAY....and it works. ---------- Electric Harp....I just love it.

I live in the rowhouse, where we have common warehouse in the yard for 18 houses. It is heated so I can practice there also during the winter. Sometimes I get some audience too when people are getting some things from their stockrooms.. ;) During the summer I also play in the playgrounds while I'm there with my kid - and everywhere really..
But I have to say listening to music, learning about the music theory and all that is part of the practice for me.

o.k. ...all great comments! for yours truly...every where...practically. Even during work when I steal a moment in an elevator. And entertain fellow employees by going through songs "Whammer Jammer" or my favorite "Steady"...and they usually love it. A fairly good indicator of progress>>>> not a good employee habit..and not recommending it to anybody. I do it hardly at all. Because, I can and will catch heat if I do it toooo much. I can't help myself. And, ofcourse, any stairwell I can get my hands on. Isn't there a "stairwell CD" out by someone? hmmm...google THAT. I miss my home in the boonies. No neighbors to be self conscious about... When there is a gig coming up, I pony up the dough, rent a studio, and go practice by myself... Not a bad deal for $15 an hour (ouch).

I've taken up a habit of playing little blues lick when I participate teleconference call. There's a lady's voice saying "Please say your name after the sound and press the hash key". Then it plays it back and after your introduce it says ".... has joined the conference". My fellow employees like it a lot. :)

i'm a firefighter, which involves a lot of sitting around waiting for something to happen. i thought this would be a good time to practice, my workmates see things differently, the issue is as yet unresolved.

Minnesota Fats said it best: "It is not practice if it's not for money, so I don't practice, I just play."
I like woodshedding in the car, no dog to howl, no wife to comment. Office is good with the door closed and always good to record what you are practicing so you know how it was or wasn't.

Practice? What's that?
On the rare occasions I actually have time, it's usually in my bedroom, or in the car on the way to a gig or band rehearsal. ----------

I havent been inside the upper arches in a long time. We used to take guitar and snare drum up years ago. Now i just pull in under the center arch and setup w/ a roland microcube on the tailgate. The amp is totally un necassary but....you know.

When I was starting out, I played in abandoned building that were destroyed by the Newark, NJ riots. I had a cool circut of different building. Stairways were my favorite place to play. I found reverb could be changed by the height, material of each stairway. I love playing around with natural reverb sites. Occasionally I had to deal with rats and a junkie or two. I named my first band "the stairway blues band". I also enjoy the sound of underground parking garages and the train stations on the erie lackawana railroad line. I have been kicked out of most of them for tresspassing/disturbing the peace. I never did pratice anything, just played. I still find it impossible to pass up on a good natural reverb site if I have a harp on me, and still tend to get kicked out before long.
