First, welcome to the forum.
Second, it's chomping at the bit.
Third, who's been slamming Rick's playing? People have been asking him for good quality samples of the amp and there have been very few.
Finally, where's your playing? If you're going to criticize people for putting themselves out there, you should do the same.

Welcome to the forum!
"you guys have apoplectic fits" "Don’t be haterz!" "1st or 2nd position. That’s lame" "Dudes… seriously… you have zero room to be slamming anyone’s tone or chops."
Should be interesting to see how you fit in. :) ---------- Ozark Rich __________ ##########

Welcome to the MBH forum.
I'd have to agree with Joe. I haven't heard anyone slam Rick's playing. I also agree with him that you should demonstrate your playing to the masses if you're throwing criticisms around.

I've never read any negative comments concerning Rick's playing on this board. Maybe somebody should post the Jason Ricci video from Adam's recent post. There was a lot of "lame" first position and second position blues in that video, LMAO.
But yeah, we all suck...and blow. ----------

If you actually are a real human being and not a RD sockpuppet, odds are that you are one of the two Mission amp players in Rick's quiz last week, and we've already heard your playing.
If you're going to slam people from this board, name names so we can judge your evaluative abilities. Start with your own name so we can find video of you. People on this forum may use handles, but they're not hiding their real names.
It's a myth that people on this board slam Rick's tone or chops. Rick Davis's tone and chops speak for themselves.
Hmm, pontificating about position playing . . . if not a sockpuppet, this could be that Denver guy playing an unusual tuning whose stuff RD has posted before.
It's not really a good idea to declare open season on people's playing. That you did so anonymously has introduced yourself to the forum very well indeed. With the hole you dug yourself, you are considerably less than a mile high now.

@htownfess - I might have been the "Denver guy playing an unusal tuning" you referred to and I just want to clear this up right away: I am not "Mile High Blues Harp".
I go by AC when playing music, my real name is Andras Csapo, I usually play a diminished tuned harp, although I also play regular tuned harmonicas (both chromatics and diatonics).
I did not play on any of those samples that were posted by Rick on that 'quiz'. If you want to check my music you can download our new short album (6 original songs) at themightyjivesters dot com (I sing on all songs, play harp and keys). All songs are recorded with the diminished tuned harp.

Welcome aboard. You said you've Googled some of our screen names. That means you've probably seen me naked. I'm really really sorry about that.
There are a couple people on this forum who collide occasionally, but that's OK. We work through it. As a general rule though, if you have an issue with a particular comment, take it up diplomatically in that thread, and don't personally insult other members, even if you don't name who you are talking about. Read the forum creed.
Again, so sorry about the naked pictures.

My apologies, AC: I should have remembered that you posted some gracious discussion/explanation when video was posted in the past. I did not think or say that you were in the 'quiz' last week: note the separate paragraphs, which indicate different topics. Thanks for telling us about the new material, as I'd like to hear you in that context. I believe you can call it an EP if it's short by CD standards but programmed as a coherent whole.

EP does sound a lot better than short CD, I'm definitely rolling with that.

Mile High - Wow! How to make friends and influence people!
For what it's worth you are right about HarpGear sound files. However they are of a far better quality than any of the Mission harp amp ones with the possible exception of the Nic Clark clips. Personally I think it's wonderful that we have even more choices than before and am glad that Bruce has entered the custom harp amp market. I do think though that good quality audio and/or video clips would be more beneficial in promoting the Mission harp amp. Whether they were studio productions or just high quality live clips wouldn't really matter too much.

I think Brian Purdy was smart to record some audio and video sample of his amps in the hands of some very good harp players. He's also carried them around the country and got them into the hands of players of all skill levels.
Plus, he's a super easy guy to communicate with. He answers e-mail. He answers the phone. He doesn't run down other manufacturer's gear in an attempt to sell more product.

Kingley, I think all the videos on the Mission Amps website have good audio fidelity, better than the sound you hear on most videos. The visuals sometimes suffer from low light, though.
The players are excellent: Ronnie Shellist, Nic Clark, Al Chesis, Dan Treanor, and Mojo Red. They all have differing styles, and taken together I think they give the veiwer a good feel for how the amp performs in live situations.
It would be cool if buying an amp automtically made us sound like Nic Clark or Dennis Gruenling, but that is not the case. If you can't try the amp yourself, I think it's best to hear a range of players.
When I conceptualized this amp and first discussed it with Bruce Collins we agreed it was to be a gigging amp, a performers workhorse meant for working harp players.
It's not a bedroom amp for players who sit at home and coax tonal nuances from low-power amps. Those sounds cannot be heard in loud band situations anyway. It is meant be gigged hard by all kinds of players. I think the videos on the website reflect that pretty well.
At the risk of attracting more derision, here is a link to a recording of the Mission Chicago amp using the line out only. It was plugged straight into my computer and recorded dry, and no FX or EQ on the sound file. Very quick and dirty. I am playing on this clip: click here ---------- -Rick Davis Blues Harp Amps Blog Roadhouse Joe Blues Band Mission Harp Amps

I've always thought it would be great to revive the gentlemanly tradition of the duel in cases like these, as in a cutting match, you know, take it outside!
And, if you are one who has nothing to prove, you can simply choose the path of grace, not engage, and move on.

Joe- I agree. Brian Purdy is indeed a great guy to deal with.
Rick - I agree that the current clips give the prospective buyer a feel for the amp. I just can't help but think that they could be even better though.
Nice playing on the audio clip.

DUELING:
at best, the dueling laws in the US are pretty vague, unless you are national guard or other armed forces.
if you are it is verboten.
if you are in a duel and you win , you get arrested and put in jail.
but..., if you lose and get killed, nobody bothers you.

Yeah, the historical context of "duel" might be inappropriate.
I'm thinking more like a sparring match between martial arts students. Non lethal. Of course, a sense of honor would have to be present.
What is has to offer is a vent for grudges or disagreements that seem irresolvable, i.e. both parties refuse to relent.
And I am talking about music here, and it's interaction with the ego.
At it's best, it could bring adversaries face to face, and perhaps expose them to compassion and humility, and expand them as players by truly putting their nuts on the line in a warrior sense, if that is their choice.
Back to the coffee...

Shane, that the duel idea kind of the reason I believe in keeping arguments in the thread they started in. If someone starts talking about you in a thread you aren't even participating in you may not even realize it's going on. Your reputation is being shot up and you don't even know it's going on. At least if it stays in one thread people can fight it out in words there.
Joel, I don't have the nuclear option. I can just delete or redact a post, which I didn't do in this case. I prefer to talk things out most of the time. :)
