Reasons why a profile is a good idea. ( I must do one).
1. Who are you? The profile, will be Google searchable? Maybe someone is looking for a harp player in your area and don't know how to make contact. Your profile could help by giving your email address and/or contact details.
2. Put a link to your website/blog/facebook/YouTube page etc. The link will strengthen your website and help push it up in the search rankings.
3. I did a search for "georginbraunschweig" and guess who is top of the list in Google?
4. If you tick the allow HTML box, you may even be able to embed a YT vid in your profile too.

Does posting your e-mail address leave you open to attack from those nasty auto-spammers? ---------- I used to be young and foolish. Now I'm not so young.
Sometimes it would be nice to send a user a PM instead of posting it on the forum, especially dealing with buying/trading gear. Putting any of your email, facebook, myspace, youtube info in your profile would be helpful.
Also I like to see who I'm talking with if you put yourself out there to be seen. Some of you post cool vids on Youtube that I'm finding randomly. At least put your Youtube name up!
@Old Dog Yes, it does. If you're very itchy about spam -- then type your email as usual but replace @ with [at] people will understand to make the change and you avoid spam bots catching your email.

Also some info about you as a player would be nice... when and how you started, what styles of music you play (genres, amped/unamped), your harps, your gear... jams you frequent, bands you play in,... etc.
Be aware that the info will be out there... but besides that, go cracy! :)
And, yes, NEVER type out your email on the internet (as long as it isn't some worthless trashmail account).
@Gwood, you may also want to check out the forum how-to on the main page.
Thanks tooka, embedding vids is a great idea, I'll do it right now! ---------- YT

I uploaded a backing track of his though. It's called 'gypsy foot'. It's called that for a reason and that's also why I link it instead of embedding. It is already infamous over here... :).
He's got a couple of tracks uploaded on his channel too... here's one of his other vids.
Tooka, that's only a problem if other people put auto opening videos too! That's kind of how I browse. I open up everything I'm going to look at then close them as I get them done.
Good playing though GH.
edit- And you too Took, although the video kind of stopped abruptly. Great hat too!
