Despite what the YouTube comments say - and the matronly headscarf - this is a man. His name is Ronnie Moipolai.

I like his style.

What is the Botswanan currency in realtion to dollar or the Euro? That guitar cost 5 of whatever the Baotswanan currency is. That can't be much by anyone's standard! Well, if that's what you can do on a $5 guitar, then I guess I can stop saving for that B-rad, and go out and by a bunch of piedmonts! ;)

The spoon slide player is called Hannes Coetzee. I had the pleasure of seeing perform live in 2001 just as he was first “discovered”.

One of my all time favorite local artists, David Kramer, created a live show called “Karoo Kitaar Blues”, which was a live show showcasing the unique “kitaar” (Afrikaans word for guitar) styles and strange tunings that he had discovered in the Karoo (one of the more remote regions of South Africa). It was later turned into a documentary.

Link to David Kramer’s site for more info: http://www.davidkramer.co.za/karoo.htm

PS, the currency of Botswana is the Pula, and $1 can gets you about 6,75 Pula, so that guitar is less than a dollar! :D
