i agree its not a nice thing to do. but many years before they had stage diving and punk bands there were lots of harp players who would pull that kind of move.im not gonna mention their names some are pretty well known. Were they assholes I agree. but that was part of the old school scene.

At the gig now...set went really well but the guy running it was really rude. He also took the opportunity to start our set without asking if we were ready which we weren't. Definitely no sound check, but we brought almost the whole crowd and killed his band, lol. Probably won't stay too late. The sound is well let's say it is interesting. Huge room with 12 15" speakers monitors etc but only running vox throough it.

We just went in, did our thing, talked with the owner an some of the bands and then I left. I was going to stay for the jam at the end, but decided not to.

We were told to keep our sets around half an hour, so we did. Well, the band after us went for an hour, then the one after that was playing past 9pm and there were 3-4 bands left (show was supposed to be done at 10pm and then become a jam), and it became apparent that the jam was probably not going to happen.

I heard five bands and we had the best reception...when we got there, all the promo in the club was calling the event a "showdown" or "battle". I don't know how it went for the last couple of bands, but we left being the band to figuratively beat. ;)

I know it sounds arrogant, but we just put on a better show than most bands. Everyone else was doing SRV fast blues into SRV slow blues to SRV fast to SRV slow, etc. until they were done. We didn't and that alone set us apart. I am not meaning to dis SRV, but there is only so much minor pentatonic wanking I can hear until it gets old, and when it is literally hour after hour of the same thing...

It was billed as Young Guns of the Blues, but we were the only band there that had multiple guys under 20, lol. It was a good time, but not a "youth" show. There were some really great bass players there. The house drummer was fantastic and one of the bands had a B3 player who was just money.

Sound was a bit of an issue. I had one of the smallest amps - an HG1210 - no kidding. I used the amp on 5 unmiked and had my Kinder AFB turned off. No feedback whatsoever. Zero.

The only other harp player went on before our band. He had really great tone with a bullet through some sort of Marshal 1x12 that was really, really, really, loud. The two guitar players in that group had a 4x10 and 2x12 with stacked distortion pedals (I told you it was SRV world) and his little Marshal just sliced through everything.

He sounded a lot like Sugar Blue plus LD Miller with a little Mark Ford - which I think is cool. He didn't show much vocabulary in his playing. He stuck to a very traditional scale choice regardless of the tune.

I just got up and did my thing...which was all about dynamics and playing melodically. The first song was a little rough on my part as we were trying to get our levels straight and I will fully admit to being a little flustered from how the transition was handled and being concerned with using a new amp for the first time on stage. The only thing harder was stepping up to sing the first time since I had no clue what was in my monitors until the first note! Lol.

My playing got a really good reaction and I know the other harp player was really impressed. To be honest, I wasn't even sure he was around to hear it. It was a fun set playing with the band at a high level, but the event itself was definitely a little rough around the edges.

you should have sliced that other dude's head off just for using a bullet with a Marshall.

a green bullet is good for hand to hand. also as a projectile. they still work after close quarters but you take your chances with throwin' 'em.

If I had a Green Bullet I would throw it at HarpNinja as hard as I could for what he just did to me.

As it stands, I'm breaking my no initiating head-cutting rule because I'm going to shred HarpNinja so bad that his moniker will have to be changed to HarpNun or better HarpNothinginya. Yes there will be violence and a disembowelment.

@todd

I highly recommend that you not send me a vid with a depressing and blubbering man exhibiting a very poor demonstration of a flecktone song.

Lol...You asked if you should watch it and I told you it would get ugly (this has nothing to do with the thread, btw) and you still watched.

This is like me telling you, "Hey there is a can of gasoline."

And you saying, "Should I drink it?"

"It is bad for you and will kill your soul slowly and painfully."

"Ok, I am going to try and drink it anyways," as you then take your first gulp. "This stuff is eating away my life force! Arghgrrrrrrrlllluuuuurppppp!"

dude you are so full of shit. Just for that, I'm going to shred your entire band from the audience.

This is how it went down:

Mike Fugazzi to me
I am really into this, lol. Especially the hands.

Buddha to Mike

I can't stand him. Is it seriously worth watching? I'm going to shred you the next time I see you if it isn't.

**
Mike Fugazzi to me

Worth watching for the entertainment value or her technical performance?

Then I wrote [paraphrased]:
Why the fuck is he crying? Disgusted with the performance before it begins? Gimmie a fucking break

I missed something. Are we supposed to drink the gasoline? Where is the gasoline can?
