I've been playing with Allan Vander Linden here in Australia for about the last 3 years. Gary Norwell wanted to try out some recording software and well this is one of the bits we did. I did some vocal work too but hate listening to my own voice.

"Off with his head"!

just kidding....not the most advanced playing, but totally charming in its own rite.

Nicely done. It kind of makes me think of Salty Holmes if he were to play bluegrass. Really good use of slow bends for flavor.

Good on ya John MG. Nobody should give a toss if your playing on this song is advanced, just that it was fun and you had the stones to post it. Keep on keeping on amigo.

John MG: Although I might have liked it if you'd tracked the vocal melody up front, just to give us a sense of what song you were playing, I really like your experiment with the long long long blue third. It sticks in the mind and differentiates you from 99% of other players out there. It's your "thing," in a sense. It's not something I've heard other players do in that particular way. So keep working it!

May your neck rest easy, John, this is fine playing , as is the picking of your agile partner Allan Vander.

John, I've tried to find the video of Jolene and me doing that song, and no luck. It's on the hard drive someplace. You guys did a different take on it, more toward a delta feel. We go more between Chicago and a bit of Piedmont I think.

I have totally loved working in a duo these past years. There is a kind of freedom I never found in bands.
