Hello forum, I've been away for awhile just living and playing a lot. I used to have a youtube channel insanely attempting to simply practice 5000 hours. Well, I haven't necessarily tracked the hours but I'm sure I've since made it. In 2013 and 2014 I was able to make my living playing music playing in bars in the oil fields of north dakota. It was a good apprenticeship. At the end of 2014 I moved to Nashville (ironically) to get my other career (RN) up to speed. I have accomplished my goal there of being able to work from home part time (after the last year full time) and my journey continues where I have the best of both worlds of continuing to work mon-wed and having 4 days to pursue music as well. My band "yer lips are blue" recorded some tracks in Nashville quite a while ago and now we are still in process of finishing this month. Here are thre rough tracks that we plan to include in an album, two have harmonica. Let me know what ya'll think! Feedback is greatly appreciated as I've always gotten great advice on this forum.
The bottom two tracks I wrote, sang, and played harp on.
The below song I wrote and played drums on. The lead guitar player/singer sang and played piano.

yeah man! Those are great tunes.
I especially liked Body & Soul, very catchy, could easily be in a romantic comedy movie soundtrack or something.

You an hear the Early Rock, British Invasion influence on the songs and vocals...except the Harmonica is far better than most of those early rockers could manage. thanks for sharing!

I am seriously impressed. I remember you well--you were an active participant here in the early days of the forum, and then you disappeared. So it's nice to have you back. But what you've brought back to the table tells me that you've definitely gone out and done some living. I like and admire "She's the One," but "Body and Soul," with its Beatles-esque changes towards the middle (:56), touched something in this 58-year old in a way that tells me you might have a hit.
Hey: don't laugh. The weekend I met my future wife for the first time, I drove back into my own town to the sound of a brand-new song, one that brought tears to my eyes and shouted "Marry that woman." Norah Jones was the singer's name; the song was called "Don't Know Why." I wasn't the only one moved by that song. I just felt it early in the curve.
Good stuff. Very impressive. I think you guys should get out on the sidewalks of downtown Nashville and busk some of this stuff. Seriously.

If you're ever playing in the Nürnberg area, I'll definitely come along.

Wow, thanks so much ya'll!!! Your kind words mean a lot! I guess in the past few years the songwriting bug has bitten me more than the harp bug but I still think the harp is truly second only the voice in terms of musical expression with an instrument.
@ Adam thank you! Honestly I prolly wouldn't be able to play harmonica period unless I found your and ronnie shellists videos back in 2007-2008. I will go busking soon on Broadway. At times I've been down there and I swear there is at least two other harp players in the city that have completely aped what you do: kick drum, double amps, repertoire. Completely. I don't know where they hide but I have seen then once in a while, it's strange! Maybe they lurk on here somewhere.

I wanted to share this as well as I just remembered about it. This was about a year before I started playing in North Dakota. I spent about 6 months playing on the streets with a celtic harpist. We called ourselves "Harpmonica" :)

MAL! Great to see you around here again! This stuff is might impressive, my man... I fully agree with Chris_L: this is a new reinterpretation of that British Invasion stuff. It's great! I hear the influence clearly, but don't get even the tiniest whiff that you guys are apeing anything. It sounds fresh and wonderful. Tasty playing, great sounds, excellent songwriting. Your voice has some shades of John Lennon in it. I like it a lot.
Well done, my friend!
PS: the tone you get on the harp duet is amazing. Love it. ----------   YouTube! Soundcloud!
