I've just opened the doors on a new blues harmonica channel on YouTube.
I have zero subscribers. Please feel free to be the first.
I'm using the channel as a kind of consolidation and reset. I'm selecting the best videos I've uploaded in my 8 years on YouTube. When I've got the original iMovie files, I'm going back to them, doing light edits and restoring outtakes, and saving them at a much higher bit rate (or whatever it's called). Some color correction, too, on those badly-filmed early ones. I just didn't have the faintest idea what I was doing, production wise, back then. It's nice to be able to go back and redo.
Some of the videos I'll be uploading to this channel have accumulated more than 100,000 views over the years; some rank high in terms of contributing to the more than 100,000 total views my 500+ videos get each month on my main channel. Others are less well known but they feature great performances. (I plan to upload Jason @ Roosters; Deak on the street; Jimi Lee strumming and tooting rack-mount harp, etc.) This is a chance for me to sort through and curate what I've done over the years, and upgrade wherever possible.
For now, brand-new content will always be uploaded to my main channel first. That may change, but not for a while.
Very nice new channel, and a good idea. YouTube "production value" expectations have changed a lot over the years, and now SD vids won't get the same hits as HD one do. And uncut vids are soooo passe! :) FWIW, I'm trying to up my own production over on my measly channel too. Got a new camera that does nice 1080p, and have been re-learning post-production stuff (using Blender, which is really cool). I think it makes a difference. HD or bust! :) ----------
Adam, That's a good move to start up a new, consolidated channel with higher res vids. Just out of curiosity... did you consider using one of the alternatives to YouTube (ie. Vimeo), or hosting them on you own website?
