I am about to purchase a Coyote Cabs 2x10 and wanted your advice. I think that I will put an Eminence Lil Buddy and a Jensen Jet Tornado in it. BTW-the head I will be using is an Egnater Rebel 20.

*What combinations have you tried and loved or hated
*What ohm speakers should I buy (The head has inputs for 4-8 and 16).
*How should they be wired
*Does it matter which one is on the left or right?
*Which one would you mic, if necessary.
Please add any comments that I haven't thought of-and THANKS.

Personally, I'd arrange the speakers one over the other, rather than side by side, easier to hear on stage.

I agree a about the vertical set up to hear better. Why aim all the sound at your ankles?

On my 3 tube amp heads with different impedance outputs I seem to get a better, warmer tone when I use the lower impedance outputs (4 or 8 ohm instead of 16ohm). YMMV

I would get 8ohm speakers, allowing different wiring configurations. You can install the speakers and try them parallel (4ohm) vs. series (16ohm) wiring. Also, if you go vertical, try flipping it to see what speaker on top sounds best with best headroom before feedback.

I have a 2 x10" cabinet with Jensen jet tornados in it that I run a 35 watt Bogen amp through. Speakers are terrific. Previously I had weber vintage alnicos, one smooth come and the other ribbed.
I like your idea of running 2 different types of speakers.

I don't know about having one speaker on top of another as far as hearing it. I have my cabinet elevated a foot or so off the ground. My speaKers are offset but not over and under like a Double Trouble amp.

My speakers are wired 8 ohms.

Hondo, I have a Coyote Slat cab with two Webers in it and it's for sale if interested. I sold the amp I used with it and don't use anymore. Needed something easier for me to carry around.

I have a 2x10 combo amp with two Jensen Jet Tornado tens mounted diagonally.
Prior to that it had two Ragin Cajuns, prior to that it had two Lil Buddy's mounted the same way.
Also tried 1-Ragin Cajun/1-Lil Buddy together,
(Lil Buddy in top position), OK, but two Lil Buddy or two Ragin Cajuns worked better.
I liked the Ragin Cajuns slightly better than the Lil Buddy.
All sounded fine, just prefer the Tornado Tens.
Generally speaking, it seems two of the same sound better for this amp.
The bonus is that they are lighter.
I have considered running a Lil buddy with one of the Tornados, but I don't see a reason to mess with it.
I also don't feel like spending any more money.
One downside may be that the Tornado Tens are bit more expensive than the Emminence.
I have not yet needed to mic this amp or use the line out.

If you're interested in the Lil Buddy's, I may be able to help with that.
Email at the address in my profile, if you want.

@ 6SN7......Do you have an opinion on your speakers being wired to 8 ohms? If I am paying attention, that sounds like 2 16 ohm speakers wired parallel?

Hondo, the wired in parallel, i didn't go that route because if one speaker blows, the other goes too. In the 8 ohm set up, at least one speaker keeps chugging along.
my speakers are arranged off set baffle. It's a Larry Rodgers cabinet.
I always raise my amp off the ground, it makes a difference.

I am more confused than ever about what ohm speakers to buy and how they should be wired.

If you want your 2 speaker cabinet to have an 8 ohm impedance, you can either: a) buy two 16 ohm speakers and connect them in parallel, or b) buy two 4 ohm speakers and connect them in series.

This would be a good topic for a Greg type article on speaker impedance and wiring options. This is a subject I get confused with. For instance, is there a way to tell what impedance a speaker is if there are no marking on it and what are the consequences of attaching it to the wrong amp?

You can measure the dc resistance between the speaker terminals of the unattached speaker (never turn on a tube amp without a speaker load attached), or at the jack plug of a speaker cab. They often read lower than rated impedance, so 5.5ohms, or 6.8ohms would suggest an "8ohm" speaker...they don't usually read the exact ohms, certainly not more.

Speaker jacks on amps are typically labelled with the load they expect to see, if in doubt, match them to the speaker/speaker array, some brands & specific amps are more flexible in this respect, than others, so play safe or seek specific advice.

Tubes/amps typically die if the speaker jack is shorted, or open (no speaker load), severe mismatching (e.g. running an 8ohm amp on a 2ohm load) can cause tube/amp death.

+1 wannabe's post. I've often wondered about neo-mag speakers for harp.

Ok, originally I had the Webers and ran a 18 watt Masco 17 thru it. It sounded great, but the amp was good for rehearsals/small clubs.
So I got a 35 watt Bogen and the speakers came highly recommended by the tech. The Jensen neos are a lot more, but I figured I would put myself into the hands of the Tonemaster and go for it. The combination is terrific, cuts thru the mix and it sounds excellent. I use the setup on my small/medium gigs.

Have you made any mods? Different PI-tube, maybe? And what speakers do you use?
Thanks.
