I discovered this today, and it looks as though it could be a good harmonica. Wood comb, but it's been sealed and the playing area is slightly raised, so the reed plates don't protrude like those on a Marine Band.

The price is comfortable, too, and I see that Rockin Ron provides the option of PT valving. Interesting.

Does anyone here know anything about this harp?

I like them best of all the Seydels. They have tight tolerances and brass reeds. Maple comb. Handsome harp. Fragile if you are a hard blower. Smooth on the mouth piece. I gave mine away to a student. Should have kept it.

Bought 3 some years back. Liked them ok as players, but found them very tough on face hair . Broke the Eb kinda quickly.
Sold the Eb and F, kept the Ab. Stopped using it in pref to a marine band.
Found it in a drawer last Monday . Surprised to find how much I liked it. I like the big holes. Can't buy them in stores here, but if I could, maybe I'd give them another chance. I'm set up with marine band though, and happy enough there. And I have a mo again...those covers are very cruel that way.

One of my favorite harps. I have a set of 7 of them retuned to 7 limit JI.
Hey SuperBee, didn't you send me one or two a couple years ago?

The cool thing about the Solist Pro is the half-flat covers. They are great for some of the advanced techniques, especially OB/OD.

The other advantage is that if/when you blow out a reed, I can replace the brass with a stainless steel.

Solist Pro gets a thumbs up as a good reasonably priced harp.

Rockin Ron always gets a thumbs up.. He delivers..

I don't really like steel reeds. They don't seem to respond the way brass reeds do.

The Seydel Solist Pro 12 steel is an awesome alternative to the 12&14 hole Marine Bands. Unlike the Hohners they are so comfortable with the non swelling nicely rounded comb and come with the stainless steel reedplates. The tone is at least of equal quality too.

Right, the Solist Pro 12 was the one I bought--brass reeds at the time.
I liked it! Sold it tho, after I tuned it to Fourkey.

I recommend to try new soloist pro (produced last 2 years or so). Seydel changed reed milling technology, now their brass reeds are not as fragile as they were before 2010-2011. I'm big fan of Stainless steel reeds, so I don't have any brass reed harmonicas in my working set, but I order Soloist Pro coverplates separately and I love them on 1847 and session steel harmonicas from Bb and higher, I think they sounds more compressed and prominent and I like how it feels on my lips and hands, BTW never have a problem with Soloist pro coverplates and beard and mustache.

The Solist Pro is a very nice harp. I only have a C, which I use a lot. Its very responsive, very comfortable to play, has a nice sound. When new, it was a beard grabber, but after a couple weeks of playing it stopped grabbing. I guess the covers settled, or the cracks got filled with dirt. In the two years I've had it, I never once opened it - it has never needed gapping. Its good value for the price and a pleasure to play. I mostly play Session Steels, Crossovers, and Special 20s. The Solist Pro is different, but just as good. Its not as loud as a Crossover or SP20. And it has more of a smooth and mellow sound.

I haven't played a Seydel with a wooden comb, but I have Seydels I like a lot that have protruding reeds and Seydel seems to to a better job making sure their protruding reeds aren't annoying protruding reeds.

I bought a Hohner 365 the other day and had to send it in for repairs right off the bat. If it had been less of an impulse buy I probably should have gone with Seydel. I keep trying to get the local store to stock them. :(

So as a marine band classic player how would this harp compare? Will the Hole sizes or cover shape be a big adjustment? What is a half flat cover anyhow? Thanks
