Just today while talking with a friend he mentioned that my presence online had gotten to a point where he was asked if I were still in business. I thought it might be a good idea to just get online and make a post and let the world know that I am indeed still alive and kicking.
I know my presence online has been severely lacking during the recent past and I guess I really don't have any excuse for it so to speak. Not long ago I took the website down so that I could focus on getting caught up. Due to a number of reasons I had just gotten so far behind that it was quite honestly inexcusable. Along with the being behind I think I was going through a bad case of burnout. I wasn't playing the harp anymore, I wasn't listening to others play, and quite honestly I think I had gotten to a point where I just needed a break.
I'm glad I did, while it may have caused folks to wonder where I was or if I were still in business it gave me time to get my head back in the game and start enjoying the work again. I also set up a music room here at home where I could actually sit and play instruments not just work on them all the time. I think my lack of actually playing music was really bringing me down and that was bleeding over into the harp work. Now I find that I'm playing the harp again, as well as my other instruments, and I'm enjoying it all a lot more.
So yes, I'm still here and still building harps and making combs, I just needed to get my head on straight so I could focus on where I was going with all of this. I'm glad to say that I did get caught up on orders and I'm back to keeping lead times around two weeks depending what the order is and the size of it.
Well I've rambled enough, just wanted to let folks know that I was still around.

I offer this pestersome question reluctantly because dealing with stupid questions from possible customers is probably one of the bigger contributors to burnout, but..., From your website, "280 combs are replacements for the older wood combs. Not intended for use on the newer versions with plastic combs." I have a 280C with a crumbling plastic comb. Is it feasible for me (a highly qualified shade tree mechanic) to adapt one of your 280 acrylic combs as a replacement for my 280c comb?
The buy in is very reasonable for this experiment and I am drilling & threading plates and combs on some other harps, and destroying some. If you say it is completely ill advised, I have no doubts you know exactly what you are talking about, but if it will work with some re-drilling I may want to give it a try.
Thanks

I would advise against it. I just took out one of the plastic comb 280's and took a second look at it and there are a number of differences. Number one being that the MP spring doesn't fit into a hole but rather a recess and the spring retainer instead of being a metal pin is a molded post. Also the comb extends past the front of the reed plates, which I think is for the cover plates to recess into (I could be wrong about that one).
So honestly I think you would be opening up a can of worms if you tried to make it work. Of course not knowing you and knowing your skills you may very well be able to pull it off, but for me personally I wouldn't attempt it.

Thanks Chris. The limits of my patience usually interferes with the practice of my full skill potential. From my observations, harmonicas in general and chromatics in particular, are precision instruments.
I will trust the "opening up a can of worms". Coming into possession of a (cracked) wood comb 280 is probably far less difficult.

Glad to be of help. Just hate to see someone spend the cash on something and then it not work out the way they wanted.
