"GOODBYE Fuckers!"
I don't know why I can't stop laughing every time I read that. What a weird/hilarious way to quit a forum about blues harmonica.
Totally agree. Yesterday's crash and burn in a blaze of glory was wonderful.....just wonderful. The rest of the day got so much brighter afterwards.

This shits crazy !!! I'm on a lot of other forums about a lot of other topics, and not a one of them has this crazy kinda crap on it. I got on this forum a few years ago to learn some new things about the harp and playing that I thought would help me advance and at first I really enjoyed it, but soon after I saw the light, and how petty some of the members where on here and it made me STOP getting back on here.... It's been awhile since I last visited this web site .... I get back on to see whats new,and look another bitch fest about some totally stupid .... WOW how F#$%*ing retarted it this. well I guess it's going to be awhile before I log back on, I've got too many more important things to do with my day.

How about clicking on the topics that interest you and not bothering with the weird ones?

Great point, Iceman.
And, who's to say you can't still learn a lot from a good olde fashioned bitch fest? Not about the harp, but there's a wealth of information about human nature.

Nacaron- another person has noted it, too. Only 2 this year? But the 3rd month isn't over. Maybe I don't belong to enough forums and locked threads are a norm. Are there other forums that have more locked than this? (not that there is necessarily anything wrong with that. It COULD be a sign of moderators who stay on top of things)
I usually just follow the threads that have something that interests me and those that spiral into name calling.

If you had experienced the Harp-L in the early days, especially when Chris Michalek, Elizabeth EGGS and (koff) sometimes myself were stirring the pot, you would have experienced a lot of weirdness, name calling and moderators tearing their hair out. ---------- The Iceman

I think that we should just go back to bashing customizers. Its way more interesting, and sometime people just learn things out of osmosis, we don't cuss at you too much, and its pretty good for business ----------

In no particular order:
Hawkeye, lol! REM, so true it's painful. Iceman, too late, I'm bald. Ray, that will probably offend someone, but it gave me a good laugh. Actually, I've got a lyric about 3/4s written in the same vein. When I get it recorded I'll post it with a parental advisory tag.
eHarp, I guess my best comparison is to the old days where we seemed to have regular full moon specials. We have, in the past, had people threatening physical violence on each other, stalking moderators, fighting from one thread to the next to the next, espousing bigotry, hating on us because we don't espouse bigotry, cyberstalking, classism, racism,... I'm not going to let 'Goodbye fuckers' do anything more than bemuse me a bit.

The amazing part, imo, is the friendliness of 99% of all harpsters I have ever met at conventions, seminars festivals.... And this goes beyond just harp talk. Even when wading into the usually avoided subjects of politics and religion with idiotic dumbacrats and moronic heathens, the discussions stay civil. (IT'S JUST A JOKE!! I am both!))
You are probably right. It seems there was a locked thread about once a month. Ya'll better pick it up a notch!

I'm european. I better figure out what "Far West" could have been. The fourth post, the one from 1847, is fine humor. A tinge of humor doesn't harm anybody, except the cow-boys who want everything messed up. BTW, spring just starts for you, East coasters?

So I missed a locked thread :^( There doesn't seem to have been one for a long time, was it a full moon? but more importantly I missed a timely opportunity to comment when Nate said "Mudhound, ......... I'm kind of leaning towards tossing you."
There's an offer you don't get every day :^)

Lumpy, oh my, maybe I should have phrased that differently!!! LOL!
Here's a thought. I have been on forums where people were kicked off and threads locked or even deleted frequently. They were usually political or religious conversations and the whole point of the site was to argue with the 'other side'. I have been on game forums, and other harp forums where things were peaceful. On the Facebook forums, you see some very on topic short conversations, but you get answers to questions like, 'What kind of harmonica is this?', not discussions of the role of race in modern blues. We've got a forum where threads get bumped up every time someone comments on them. That means sometimes threads hang on past their shelf life, but I think it also gives us deeper discussions, and hopefully, a little more sense of community. I belong to a couple FB harp forums, and just the nature of how quick comments disappear makes it hard to figure out who anyone 'is' in the sense of their personality or whether they are into the same sorts of questions you are. They have their place. They are hooked to FB, so they are great for promoting a show, or getting a general answer quickly, but they really are a different sort of beast.
