Holy smoke,Batman!
I like the idea but they leave out a lot of important details. It looks like you need some sort of large power source to get that thorium going. Still,we need something to replace our quickly dwindling fossil fuels.

LOL! For once, an American car wins the round in the clean fuel race! This makes me proud of Cadillac.

But.....are the sextuple bicycle tires on each wheel an absolute must????

Hate burst your bubble guys, but this is a case where the sexy body is a distraction from the fictional thorium-powered engine.

@mr_so&so

I'm actually not all that keen on the body myself. My taste in automotive bodies reaches for the past rather than the 24th century. Give me a '63 Sting Ray or '64 DB5 over a Bugatti Veyron or Pagani Zonda any day of the week.

But I think the thorium drive is attainable down the road (no pun intended), though God only knows when. This Caddy, after all, IS a concept car.

@Hawkeye, The so-called technology described in that article is complete B.S. There is a lot of buzz these days about thorium reactors. Even they are not used commercially. And there is certainly no magic about thorium's density to allow it to power a car without having a nuclear reactor too.

Having worked in the nuclear industry and been aware of "breeder" reactors for decades, I was curious as to why they never became commercially viable. Although there are some advantages, there are also some serious technical challenges and additional hazards to thorium reactors. Since thorium is not itself fissile, thorium reactors still need standard enriched uranium fuel (with more U235 than naturally occurs) or spent fuel reprocessing to get fissile U233 or plutonium to get them going, then they "breed" their own fissile material (Th232 turns into fissile U233). Fuel enrichment and reprocessing have their own problems, i.e. producing weapons-grade materials, and radiation hazards. Here is an article that explains.

Hmmmm....very enlightening.

So, is the arc reactor from the Iron Man series analogous to a thorium reactor? Good in theory, but the science doesn't really back it up?

But if you're going to cut heads wouldn't this be better?
"2013 Honda Mean Mower This mower does an insane 133 mph while still being able to cut grass, thanks to a 109 hp V2 engine in a vehicle weighing only 309 lbs."

"BBC's Top Gear, the best television motoring program in the history of man."

+1

Though Clarkson has a knack for pissing me off with his snobbery against American machines, I'm thankful for Hammond and his affection towards them. It is in fact, one of the best shows.....IN THE WOORRRLD. ;-)
