Actually, I've always liked the line from Whitman's "Leaves of Grass":

I stop somewhere waiting for you.

"Off on another adventure."

On a related note, one of the neatest ones I've seen is in a cemetary here in town. Kid died in 1976. His reads "Things are cool". Must have been a laid back kind of guy.

They brought him here
In a hearse
They buried him here
With his verse
No poet ever
Was there worse
And now we rid the world
Of his verbal curse.

A prince among the paupers graves
A nice old man, but a foolish knave.
Too poor to pay but his final debt
But he outlived all of his regret.
A harmonica pressed for signs of life
A few dollars, a pocket knife
We left him in the ground right here
His mournful tones to call to your ear
But don't let your eyes grow wet
For he lives on on the internet.

Not sure I'd count as 'an old man' but hopefully I will by the time I need this!

OK.. A bit weird but... a friend who kicked it shortly after retiring without a beneficiary joked that his tombstone should say "Should have taken the lump sum." I just hope for a great drunken wake with a blues band when my time comes.

If mine can honestly say "He was worthy of the admiration of his children" I will have done all right.

On a more blues harmonica theme, I always like the simple "Been here and gone".

Wife and I do agree, we're for cremation.
BUT several years ago, she was writing a Memorial Day piece for the local newspaper. This is an air base town and there is an army base nearby as well so we went to the veterans' cemetery to look at headstones.

Some of those cats were just too cool. I can't recall many now but one was, "It's all Rock and Roll." The weight of all those good guys there finally had me waiting in the car. I just could not take any more. She got a great story and I wish I had a copy now. when she retired she tossed all the archived papers she had saved over many years. she had to- we needed the room!

Mine, if I were to have one might say- "NOW I get my nap!"

If you know what this means, please call the Guilderland police.

It will likely simply just be my full name and birth/death date. Nothing harmonica related to be found. I hope someone will throw some beetles on it though. ;)
