I'm in bed for 4 hours by the time 2am rolls around but I'm up at 6am daily 7 days aweek - I get me 7 to 8 hrs of sleep - tonight the great John Nemeth is going to perform in my neck of the woods...I have to work in the morning and will be in bed by 10:30pm missing his awesome show, sleep trumps music for me - sleep is sacred and is part of my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health regimine - keeps the "tiger in the tank" ;) Now, if I was off tommorow - this lightweight might muster up the strength to go to the show and get in bed by 12pm :)

if it really stung you, you probably need some time alone in the woodshed if your response is incomprehension, don't worry about it that sort of crap is from the same book which demands that concert pianists commit their whole repertoire to memory the same book that makes music a performance sport

As we say where I'm from, 'go hard or go home'
A witty comeback might have been good, like 'what's that love?; you'd like to lose weight?'
Sometimes you just better off to go home. ---------- Lucky Lester

If a little insignificant comment like that upsets you then maybe you are a lightweight and playing music in front of people isn't for you. All musicians need to have a thick skin, especially blues players. Crowds can be tough to please and very critical. You need to be able to take it all on the chin.

She was most likely having an intimate evening with John Barley Corn her faithful companion and lover and he prompted her outburst...ofcourse like all good drunks - she must be submissive to his authority :)

The fact that she called you a "light weight" when you decided to go home AFTER 2 AM tells that she has a problem you'd rather not have. People who want to keep the party going get nervous when others decide to return to their lives outside the taverns. ---------- Ted Burke http://www.youtube.com/user/TheoBurke?feature=mhee

We allways remember the single bad comment among the thousands of good ones!! (well I do):-) I am learning Happy Birthday on the Uke for my Granddaughter for her fifth birthday and when I showed my wife how I was doing she said......if you play it any slower she will be 6 by the time you've finished!! Lol.

I'm not sure I'd take it as a slight if she said it right after you said you were heading home. In the context you gave, it sounded more to me like she was just making fun of you for quitting the party.
That's a pretty typical lighthearted jab whenever anyone leaves early. Now, if she was talking about your playing, yeah, then maybe you need to work on your comebacks and have one ready. (Some of my favorite comedy is when a comedian gets heckled and the comedian is ready to make the heckler crawl down a hole and cry.)

@Jlnx BTW nice painting..
I hope my 'real blueser' credentials are intact because last night I played on till well late.
I would add that I play a lot when performing and get all the aches and pains in shoulders and hands that you young whippersnappers may not get yet:)
I took that lightweight comment as a backhanded compliment, that she did not want me to stop:)
I should have walked past her grabbed her head in my hands, and kissed her forehead with a flourish ha ha

"Lighweight" needs to be reconsidered. I am in bed by 9=9:30pm five nights a week, but I also out of bed at 4:30 AM for work. I suspect those who decided to stay behind and close the bars won't be up until 9am, minimum, with manslaughter hangovers and the state of bewilderment that comes with not knowing who's bed you slept in last night. ---------- Ted Burke http://www.youtube.com/user/TheoBurke?feature=mhee

Your "real blueser" credentials being intact?
That's great! Whatever that is?
The blues men and women I have known are not concerned with their "blueser credentials." They just do what they do. They live life.
If you worry about some non-existent bogus credentials, you're probably a lightweight. ---------- The Blues Photo Gallery

@harmonicanick - I suspect that it was actually a comment made in jest. Consequently I would also say you might ask yourself the question why it bugged you so much you had to post here for validation. Consider the following tale.
I use to book myself under an assumed name fronting a booking agency. The difference in reaction from club owners as opposed to calling as my "real" self was remarkable. So one day I do a follow up call to talent buyer that I'd sent a package to and asked him what he thought. His reply? "Oh, the band is great but I think the singer is crap." I was the singer. Did I crumble into the fetal position and suck my thumb? No. In a heartbeat I replied, "Yeah, I know. But not to worry. We sacked that guy and got another one who's much better." Straight away the guy gives me a date.
When we went to do the gig after the first set the talent buyer comes up to me and says, "Hey man, you guys are great. Tell your agent if he has any more bands like you I'll have 'em."
Moral: You gotta roll with the punches. ---------- LSC

It was just some drunk woman having fun. She probably says the same thing to her friends when they leave the bar to go home. It is just a throw-away line that means absolutely nothing. Forget it.
